(10Sept 06) “…It is a decade since the US began an experiment in welfare reform. In 1996 Bill Clinton hesitantly signed into law the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families bill, to the dismay of fellow Democrats and the Left-liberal intelligentsia at large. Their Australian counterparts in the Labor Party and the welfare lobby could save themselves a great deal of needless embarrassment by taking on board the main lessons from that experiment…. In 1994, the number of people on the old program, Aid to Families with Dependent Children, had peaked at 5.1 million. Once the new program began, the numbers went into free fall and by 2004 the total had plunged to two million. It was a 60 per cent drop, an outcome the reformers hadn't envisaged in their wildest dreams and which the opponents of reform found utterly inconceivable…” Welfare to work, Wedlock by Christopher Pearson, The Australian “…Kay Hymowitz is a fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor of City Journal, which published her overview, How Welfare Reform Worked, in its spring edition. Hymowitz offers a lucid and detailed account of the gap between what the US welfare lobby expected and what happened…. American critics of welfare reform argued in the mid-'90s, as their opposite numbers in Australia do to this day, that even if single mothers found jobs they'd probably be underemployed or in entry-level jobs that would leave them not much better off in real terms and perhaps worse off than they were on the dole. In the event, they were proved mostly wrong…I wonder how long it will take for the debate on poverty in Australia to catch up with the lessons to be drawn from the American experience. The local welfare lobby is still busily accusing the Howard Government of meanness whenever it moves to encourage single mothers to take some part-time work and subverting its attempts to enforce breaching provisions on the non-compliant. For all of Noel Pearson's eloquent denunciations of welfare dependency as "poisoned flour", far too few of the social welfare salariat seem to realise that's really what they're doling out. As for a social engineering project to encourage single mothers to marry, that is likely to remain a bridge too far in Australia for the foreseeable future…”
ISLAMISM - BEYOND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS
(10Sept 06) This is an absolute disgrace…Take it up with your local, state and federal politicians!
“….Australia has granted asylum to five men who claim their membership of an organisation accused of ties to al-Qa'ida would expose them to persecution in their home countries. The men from Syria , Egypt and India sought protection on the basis of their membership of the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been banned in Syria and is considered the father of terrorist groups including al-Qa'ida. Osama bin Laden's right-hand man Ayman al-Zawahiri adopted the organisation… US terror expert Steven Emerson said the practice of allowing Muslim Brotherhood members into Australia was "extremely dangerous"… The worrying statistic is not only the number of those who were accepted by the Refugee Review Tribunal as refugees because they could prove that they belonged to the Brotherhood BUT the far greater number who were rejected because they could not do so…” ISLAMISM - BEYOND POLITICAL CORRECTNESS by Paul Stenhouse “….The Department of Immigration accepts as a datum that ‘The Muslim Brotherhood is not an extremist group…. If the Egyptian government and the Syrians – not noted for squeamishness in dealing with militant opposition – fear the Muslim Brothers then Australia would be foolish to think it knows better…The militant wing of Hamas is attached to the Brothers, and both its founders belonged to the brotherhood… If proving that you belong to the Brotherhood entitles you to refugee status in Australia , then it entitles you to citizenship also; and nothing can prevent your setting up a branch of the Brotherhood in a nearby supermarket. How can the anonymous Australian bureaucrats who decide the criteria to be applied to seekers of asylum, know that ‘the Brotherhood,' is not still ‘work[ing] under the Islamic doctrine of "concealment" ( kitman ) in order to "Islamize" the country'? Only this time, ‘the country' is not Egypt , Syria , the Sudan , Algeria or Palestine , but Australia ….”

Don't believe the hype: It's your choice
(30July06) “…It looks like industrial relations reform will be the major issue in next year's federal election. If so, the credibility of the critics of reform will be crucial. Are the latest predictions of doom to be taken seriously, or are the critics like the boy who cried wolf? A look at the record of the labour movement, and the Labor Party, over the past 10 years suggests the latter….In 1998 the Government supported the victory of Patrick Stevedores over the Maritime Union of Australia. In that fight the union was backed by the broader labour movement and the Labor Party. This alliance asserted with fervour that productivity on the docks was as good as it could be, and that there was something vindictive, almost evil, about the Government's support for Patrick. In the event, Patrick won and productivity increased about four-fold, with tremendous benefits for the many areas of the economy dependent on container imports and exports…The next major battleground of industrial relations reform has been the construction industry….” Don't believe the hype: It's your choice by Michael Duffy, Sydney Morning Herald “…The Cole royal commission, which reported in 2003, estimated that building costs were perhaps 20 per cent higher than they should be due to unnecessary labour and union costs, including pointless strikes, rostered days off, and a dizzying array of feather-bedding. It estimated this was a drain on gross domestic product of about 1 per cent…The results have been staggering…At this point it's unclear just how much costs have been and will be reduced by the reforms…The challenge for the Government will be to place its unpopular but still new WorkChoices reforms in the broader context of a decade of industrial relations reform that, as the above examples show, is delivering significant benefits for all Australians. Partly this will depend on advocacy; partly on experience, as individuals affected by WorkChoices see if it's really as bad as Beazley has assured them it will be….”
Radical Islamic conference at uni
(3July06)“…The nation's two most radical Islamic clerics - hardliners described by a rival yesterday as producing "bin Ladens in the suburbs" - will use a three-day conference at a major university to recruit followers to their sect. The Melbourne-based leader of the Ahl Sunnah Wal Jammah association, Mohammed Omran, and his Sydney counterpart, Abdul Salam Mohammed Zoud, will lead the conference next month at RMIT University under modified names - a ploy their critics claim is designed to escape media attention… ” Radical Islamic conference at uni by Richard Kerbaj, The Australian. “… A member of John Howard's Muslim Community Reference Group, Mustapha Kara-Ali, said that Sheik Omran and his group were renowned for using "phony" names to avoid "spurring certain media reactions"…. "The (conference) organising group headed by Omran is an Australian Trojan horse," Mr Kara-Ali said. "Year after year this fringe group continues to adapt its cover while it unashamedly holds the same core support to bin Laden and his ideology… Mr Kara-Ali said Sheik Omran's organisation has a "hidden agenda" to "further recruit" more Australian Muslims and "disenfranchised youth" into his radical sect….”
(24 May06)“…And so it unfolds. This war. Based on cultural infiltration rather than traditional warfare, the Islamists exploit the democratic spaces within our society and insert their religious dogma via our own societal modes. And when Islam oversteps and the ignorant Westerners protest, Islam screams, “Racism, Xenophobia”, and the gatekeepers of Western culture rollover and go back to sleep….For years the Australian Refugee Review Tribunal has been granting asylum to Islamic refugees who claim to be members of the Muslim Brotherhood…” Rolling Over Australia by Sharon Lapkin FrontPageMagazine.com “…The Australian (April 08, 2006) reported that Ahmad al-Hamwi had “alleged links to terrorist organisations spanning a good part of the globe.”… Despite this, Australia granted al-Hamwi asylum in 1996… the West, it appears, is determined to sleep through the invasion. Just as in Europe, Australia is appeasing and ignoring. It is censoring its own freedoms and democratic principles to assuage Islamic cultural sensitivities. It is turning a blind eye to Islamic racism against Australian citizens and succumbing to the bullying tactics of those who attempt to frighten anyone who dares to name it….”
(18 May06) “…Which two of the following three things are so obviously dangerous that they've just been banned? And which one was this week declared safe for distribution?
Exhibit A: Free Bibles placed by Gideons International in the bedside cupboards of public hospitals.
Exhibit B: A jokey TV commercial in which Wogs Out of Work's George Kapiniaris complains about an Indian call centre.
Exhibit C: A book sold last year by Sydney's Islamic Bookshop that praises suicide bombing as "legitimate and praiseworthy" and says it's best to "wire up one's body, or a vehicle or a suitcase with explosives, and then to enter among a conglomeration of the enemy and to detonate"…. Yes, it's the Bibles and the Indian joke that have been banned for the immense harm they might do.
And it's the jihad book, Defence of the Muslim Lands, that the Australian Federal Police and Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions this week said could be sold without fear of prosecution for inciting violence… Oh my God!! A Bible by Andrew Bolt
Herald Sun “…Imagine the trauma one of our ethnic friends might feel if he or she opened the drawer and found . . . OH MY DIFFERENT GOD, a Bible.
Professional pain-avoiders have averted this catastrophe by removing every single Bible from the bedsides of leading public hospitals in Victoria, South Australia and Queensland…It seems the real racists -- the real troublemakers -- are the multiculturalists who assume Muslims are so intolerant they can't safely be shown a Bible, or denied their own books that preach such violence.
And once more we should heed the warning -- especially in Victoria , where we prosecute two Christian pastors who warn against jihad but tolerate the most radical imams who preach it…”

Muslims here say democracy is a no, no
(15April06) “…Another speech by another Muslim leader, and I ask -- who's kidding who?...
..In February Treasurer Peter Costello was monstered for saying Muslims shouldn't come to Australia unless they accepted basic Australian values. And he listed them: democracy, the freedoms of a secular state, and "loyalty first -- loyalty to Australia ". For this he was called a Muslim-basher by most of our leading Muslim groups…” Muslims here say democracy is a no, no by Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun
“…Last Saturday a small Muslim group, Hizb ut-Tahrir, held a public meeting at the Bankstown Town Hall to discuss whether Australia's Muslims really should subscribe to those values Costello mentioned. The answer was: No. No to democracy, a secular society and Australia first. For instance, Usman Badar, president of the University of NSW Muslim Students Association , told the 300 or so people that "Western values are not worthy of human subscription…” The real battle is not, or should not be, between Muslims and non-Muslims. It is as Arab-American psychiatrist Wafa Sultan bravely put it in a debate on Al-Jazeera two months ago: "It is a clash between civilisation and backwardness, between the civilised and the primitive, between barbarity and rationality. It is a clash between freedom and oppression, between democracy and dictatorship." The hard truth is more Muslim spokesmen need to join us on the right side of that battle . . . and to fight with us, not against….”
Infiltrating Australia's Academe
(5April06)“ In February, Prime Minister Howard's Muslim Advisory Group met for the first time for 2006, and it was not a happy event. Prior to the meeting, Howard and his Treasurer, Peter Costello, spoke to the media on Islamic extremism in Australia….it appears that the national Islamic youth group, the Federation of Australian Muslim Students and Youth (FAMSY), has been working assiduously to promote extremist aspects of Islam to the next generation of Australian Muslims….When Steven Emerson – one of the world's leading authorities on Islamist extremist networks – recently visited Australia, he acknowledged that FAMSY is an ideological offshoot of the international Islamist movement, the Muslim Brotherhood….FAMSY has operated in Australia since 1968…One of the organisation's most committed members is Zachariah Matthews , who has been involved with FAMSY since 1992…” Infiltrating Australia's Academe by Sharon Lapkin FrontPageMagazine.com.“...FAMSY's guest speakers over the last few years validate Emerson's claim that the organisation is clearly an ideological offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood. It also demonstrates that Islamists have become regular fixtures on Australian university campuses….American convert to Islam, Mahdi Bray , spoke to Australian Muslim youth at the FAMSY conference in 2003. Within two months of his University of Sydney guest appearance, Bray was named by a witness who addressed the US Congressional Subcommittee on Terrorism, Technology and Homeland Security, as the contact for a key organisation involved in Muslim prison recruitment…last year, FAMSY bought Anas Altikriti to Australia to speak to Muslim youth. Altikriti's father had attended school with Saddam Hussein and was currently head of the Muslim Brotherhood in Iraq . And Altikriti himself is a founding member of the Muslim Association of Britain (MAB), which readily admits to having links to the Muslim Brotherhood.”
Australia continues to give asylum to Muslim Brothers
(4April06) The following revelation seriously sucks the oxygen out of the room and brings into question the competence and diligence of Australia 's Refugee Review Tribunal. Here's just a little of their history and some of the criminal and odious personalities involved. Click on the Muslim Brotherhood link below to get a full understanding as to what the Refugee Review Tribunal has allowd into Australia as a persecuted refugee.
“.. In Egypt and the Sudan , the Brotherhood extended its reach and spun off terrorist groups including Jamaat al-Islamiyya, aka Gama'a al-Islamiyya (The Islamic Group), and Egyptian Islamic Jihad . Sudan 's al-Turabi was a key networker for the Brotherhood, cultivating such friends as "the blind Sheikh" Omar Abdel Rahman and Ayman Al-Zawahiri , who then carried word to others. In 1981, the Brotherhood assassinated Anwar Sadat. Zawahiri and Rahman were both arrested, and Rahman eventually stood trial, accused of providing a fatwa to justify the killing. Rahman was acquitted..”
“…The following is a collection of cases that were heard by the Australian Refugee Review Tribunal, and higher courts, where the applicants sought protection on the grounds of persecution because of political beliefs; in these cases evidenced by their membership of the Muslim Brotherhood. ... In all these cases, where the appeals have been successful, the decision was based on findings of whether the applicants had successfully proven membership of the Muslim Brotherhood..” Australia continues to give asylum to Muslim Brothers “..There are other cases (and these are larger in number) where the appeal failed because the applicant could not prove membership of the Muslim Brotherhood to the satisfaction of the tribunal or court…”
(1Feb06)This makes for excellent, yet chilling reading about Jayant Patel (Dr Death) and the full story of what happened at Bundaberg Hospital. The article is from Quadrant Magazine December 2005 .
“…Time was now running out, and when the Oregon Board of Medical Examiners further restricted his permit to practise in September 2000, and with New York State forcing him to surrender his licence in April 2001, it was time to jump ship… But where could Doctor Death go? Where could a man like this find both employment and a salary of the kind he now expected and required, when his record was known in the USA, and when anyone who studied that record would suspect he was not merely incompetent but quite possibly mentally unbalanced—a man with a barely controllable urge to cut and slash, who shouldn't be allowed within five miles of an operating theatre?” Doctor Death in Bundaberg by Roger Sandall, Quadrant Magazine “…The opinion of the US victim of a back-to-front colostomy that left him impotent has already been mentioned in this regard (Patel, he said, was “a sociopath in Oregon, who became a psychopath in Australia”). In Australia Patel undertook an operation without anaesthetic…. When a new Director of Nursing, Ms Linda Mulligan, was appointed at the hospital, Toni Hoffman ( the whistleblower ) tried to enlist her help. But it was soon obvious that Ms Mulligan had no intention of involving herself in the wards. She did give Hoffman a book to help the manager of the Intensive Care Unit resolve what Ms Mulligan believed was an unjustified personal hostility to Patel. If that failed, she said, then perhaps Hoffman should seek psychological counseling”
(21Dec05) “..Perhaps now after the revelations last Friday at a bail hearing in Melbourne , those that were railing against the anti-terror laws in recent months finally get it… Put simply, it would seem that there are some living among us who mean us harm… Serious, devastating harm” Jim Ball's Ben Brika Bail Hearing editorial “…Would the high-minded prefer to keep stumbling around in their fog of denial and delusion and wait for a bomb to go off before “bringing them to justice.” Unfortunately terrorism is not quite that neat and tidy…
A great divide takes some great understanding
(17Dec05) “..Understanding traditional social structures of the Lebanese would go a long way toward avoiding the racial clashes seen at Cronulla this week,” writes Paul Sheehan in A great divide takes some great understanding from the Sydney Morning Herald . “According to the last census, the Lebanese community in Sydney was 114,491 in 2001, so would be about 120,000 today, or 3 per cent of Sydney's population. About a third are Muslim. Ninety per cent were born overseas or have at least one foreign-born parent….Kennedy believes the social gulf has drifted to the point of social danger: The mismanagement of this situation by politicians, lawyers and police has taken us to the point where we could see violent civil disorder on a scale we have not seen before.”
(15Dec05) “…Middle Eastern immigrants have brought with them a religion that too often preaches rejection of the very society they've joined and too often glorifies violence….They also brought with them radical preachers, such as the Egyptian Hilali, the Lebanese Sheik Abdul Salam Zoud, the Jordanian Sheik Mohammed Omran and the Algerian Abdul Nacer Benbrika, the last now arrested, who spoke little English, but much hate..” It's time to think by Andrew Bolt, Herald Sun “..Add the elements. A local surfing tribe. Beach invasions by another, more violent tribe. Weak policing. Handwringing politicians. A lookaway media. Feeble loyalties to authority. Beer. A particularly outrageous bashing. Fear….”

The Rise of Middle Eastern Crime in Australia
(13Dec05) “It was about 1995 to 1996 that the emergence of Middle Eastern crime groups was first observed in New South Wales. Before then they had been largely known for individual acts of anti-social behaviour and loose family structures involved in heroin importation and supply as well as motor vehicle theft and conversion….When the Middle Eastern crime groups emerged in the mid-to-late 1990s no alarms were set off. The Crime Intelligence unit was asleep. I know personally that operational police in south-west Sydney compiled enormous amounts of good intelligence on the formation of Lebanese groups such as the Telopea Street Boys and others in the Campsie, Lakemba, Fairfield and Punchbowl areas..” The Rise of Middle Eastern Crime in Australia by Tim Priest …
An example of the confrontations police nearly always experienced in Muslim-dominated areas when confronting even the most minor of crimes is an incident that occurred in 2001 in Auburn . Two uniformed officers stopped a motor vehicle containing three well known male offenders of Middle Eastern origin, on credible information via the police radio that indicated that the occupants of the vehicle had been involved in a series of break-and-enters. What occurred during the next few hours can only be described as frightening.
(11Sept05) “..Although this new, intellectually-trained class (the cultural elite) professed their motives as social justice, they held contempt for the majority of Australians, who they thought remained mired in materialism and shrouded in xenophobia” Vilifying Australia by Keith Windschuttle www.sydneyline.com “..Hence, the fashionable causes of the day defined traditional Australians and their way of life as the problem, and immigrants and their way of life as the solution. Cultural diversity became a symbol of social prestige that distinguished this new class from the old Anglophile establishment…Contempt for the suburbs where most Australians choose to live has reverberated down through our elite culture.” This is the 2005 Earle Page Memorial Oration, delivered at Parliament House, Sydney, on June 22 2005 .

Weighing the Evidence- the Schapelle Corby case
(8Mar05) This is compelling and should be compulsory reading for anyone traveling overseas. It's the story so far in the Schapelle Corby case in Bali…Nothing has fallen her way. Video surveillance cameras not working, Xray machines not up to the task, Indonesian customs not bothering to reconcile the weight of luggage with Corby 's “chits”, failure to fingerprint the package of marijuana. On and on it goes. Read about it here in Weighing the Evidence from the Sydney Morning Herald “… Federal police say "it is a recognised criminal activity" for drug dealers to use innocent travellers as unsuspecting "mules". They have arrested baggage handlers at Sydney Airport for the offence. Drugs are inserted in luggage at one airport and a photograph of the target bag and its tag are emailed to the destination airport, where baggage handlers recover the drugs before the passenger collects the bag…”.

Labor renders Werriwa indefensible
(12Mar05)This is the Alan Ramsey column (SMH 12/13 March). It is a case study for anyone interested in the machinery of NSW Sussex Street Labor politics .
"The local branches are stunned." Writes Ramsey in Labor renders Werriwa indefensible "The phone doesn't stop ringing. Even the Liberals are incredulous. These useless, faceless operatives in Sussex Street will destroy this once great party…..Losing Werriwa would be [ Melbourne 's] equivalent to the Libs losing the Toorak heartland. It will surely now happen…” “….Remarkable. Little did they know it was the one that got away. We have the Macquarie Fields riots. (in Werriwa) . Who did the interviews on Channel Seven and the ABC's 7.30 Report ? Brenton Banfield, with his consumate ease, grace and style. Our Werriwa candidate silent. Local state members silent. Just left to Brenton. Truly bizarre. "
How immigration laws are stifling Australia
(18Feb05) “..The tangled array of legislation and regulations that determine people movements in and out of Australia are bureaucratic, legalistic, complex writes Gregory Hywood in the Melbourne Age in How immigration laws are stifling Australia …..more than 70 types of visa exist for those coming into Australia; there are nine migration acts, some going back to 1946; and 14 major legislative changes have been made to these acts in the past two years alone…”.
Australia 's $403 billion foreign debt: hail the banana republic
(20Jan05)”……The crunch for Spain came when the gold and silver ran out. The crunch for Australia will come when the markets demand usurious interest rates to satisfy lenders, or when the foreign capital dries up and we have to face repayments of over $20,000 per Australian.......writes Pat Byrne in Australia 's $403 billion foreign debt: hail the banana republic, December News Weekly. “…Like Spain , Australia has not used its borrowings to build industries, but for consumption. Worse, much of this money has been used to buy imports, destroying manufacturing and de-industrializing Australia . Thirty years ago we were up with the rest of the world in manufacturing; now we are down to 11 per cent of GDP, around the level of Greece….”
Stop Tolerating Tribal Punishment
(03Dec04)“…Just as white culture is not perfect, some aspects of Aboriginal culture are flawed. Yet saying so is deemed impolite or, worse, derided as a new form of racism……” writes Janet Albrechtson in Stop Tolerating Tribal Punishment " …Critics of multiculturalism are invariably labeled as critics of tolerance. Although tolerance is a worthy goal, it is only meaningful when tempered with moral judgments about what is right and what is wrong…”.

Political Bias in the Arts(Jan 2004) A couple of issues have percolated in recent days. One concerned Prime Minister John Howard’s observations regarding public schools and the other in the lead up to Australia day was the head of the Sydney Theatre Company bemoaning the fact that the Howard government placed a greater emphasis on sport vis a vis the arts. This article POLITICAL BIAS IN THE ARTS by Giles Auty is from Quadrant Magazine from March 2001 and combines the two themes.

Be certain to check out his book titles. “Exploiting Health” is particularly good….It simply demonstrates how a basic function of society can become another greasy political pig. Communist purge plan for schools
What’s gone wrong in Education -Concerned about the deterioration in the Public School System??? It hasn’t been by accident… More by design. Everyone wrings their hands and despairs about discipline, violence (20,000 reports in the last 12 months- SMH 29/10/01) Reference to this article from the Sydney Morning Herald, Communist purge plan for schools (24/8/1971) explains a hell of a lot…More to the point, where were the politicians in all of this? Communist agenda or not, they are the one’s who have allowed it to happen. Read it and weep!!
