The Myth of Moderate Islam

(30Jul05) Some in Britain cannot conceive that a suicide bomber could be a hero of Islam. Since 7/7 many have made statements to attempt to explain what seems to them a contradiction in terms…. surely we should give enough respect to those who voluntarily lay down their lives to accept what they themselves say about their motives…”  The Myth of Moderate Islam , the cover story in the July 2005 issue of The Spectator by Dr. Patrick Sookhdeo, Director of the Institute for the Study of Islam and Christianity .  “…. On 8 July the London-based Muslim Weekly unblushingly published a lengthy opinion article by Abid Ullah Jan entitled ‘Islam, Faith and Power'. The gist of the article is that Muslims should strive to gain political and military power over non-Muslims, that warfare is obligatory for all Muslims, and that the Islamic state, Islam and Sharia (Islamic law) should be established throughout the world. All is supported with quotations from the Koran….. The violence which is endemic in Muslim societies such as Pakistan is increasingly present in Britain 's Muslim community.…”

CAIR Founded by "Islamic Terrorists"?

(30Jul05) This piece from Daniel Pipes is most revealing. CAIR (Council on American Islamic Relations) is a very large, loud, vocal and dangerous Islamist peak body in North America . CAIR Founded by "Islamic Terrorists"?

The following sentence gives the game away totally: ‘Omar Ahmad, CAIR's chairman, announced in July 1998 that "Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Koran . . . should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth…” . CAIR's March 2004 lawsuit is part of what seems to be a policy of using the legal process to silence or chill critics.'

Europe's Emerging Mujahideen

(30Jul05) “…It is a known fact, normal people perceive what they want to see, as well as what they are accustomed to seeing, and often do not register something incredibly obvious. This same predetermined blindness applies to how people acknowledge subjects, whether they are the environment, politics, gun control, nutrition or terrorism; they begin with a default assumption and proceed to an often-biased confirmation built on unfounded causal associations. Europe's Emerging Mujahideen  by Peter B Martin . “ The majority of the public believes the Islamist terrorist must want something; his actions must be due to poverty, mistreatment or a sense of persecution and that we should be more understanding towards them. That misconception is being touted by the media today and has made its way even into governmental circles….Simply put, the ideological grounds on which al Qaeda is founded is so foreign to the average Christian layman's liberal way of thinking, it is no wonder we are having difficulty managing the course of a war against Islamic terrorism….”

British Opinion Surveys From an Islamist Hell

(28Jul05)In this article British Opinion Surveys From an Islamist Hell in FrontPageMagazine.com Daniel Pipes Comments about “ many worrisome statistics”, of which “..two stand out. That less than three-quarters of Muslims in Britain indicate they would tell the police about an impending terrorist attack raises grave doubts about the Blair government's tactic of getting Muslims to police their own community. That one-third of Muslims do not accept British society and want to end it, presumably to pave the way for an Islamic order, casts comparable doubts on Britain's much-vaunted multicultural ideal.”

Why Do They Hate Us? Not Because of Iraq

(26Jul05) “..Conflicts in the Middle East have a tremendous impact on Muslim public opinion worldwide. In justifying its terrorist attacks by referring to Iraq, Al Qaeda is looking for popularity or at least legitimacy among Muslims”. Why Do They Hate Us? Not Because of Iraq by Oliver Roy from The New York Times “ ….First, let's consider the chronology. The Americans went to Iraq and Afghanistan after 9/11, not before. Mohamed Atta and the other pilots were not driven by Iraq or Afghanistan . Were they then driven by the plight of the Palestinians? It seems unlikely. After all, the attack was plotted well before the second intifada began in September 2000, at a time of relative optimism in Israeli-Palestinian negotiations….. From the beginning, Al Qaeda's fighters were global jihadists, and their favored battlegrounds have been outside the Middle East: Afghanistan , Bosnia , Chechnya and Kashmir . For them, every conflict is simply a part of the Western encroachment on the Muslim Ummah, the worldwide community of believers….”

Cracks in the melting pot

(26Jul05)“…Western society is “disgusting”, democracy is “Satan-based”, non-Muslims are “sewer water”, women in skimpy clothing are at fault if they are raped, Osama bin Laden is not guilty of mass murder…. A big problem for Australian multiculturalism, according to historian Mark Lopez, is that it failed to anticipate that immigrants might one day be opposed to the central tenets of Western society. Cracks in the melting pot by Roy Eccleston and Kate Legge in The Australian “…Lopez, who has written an authoritative account of Australian multiculturalism, believes immigration policy was hijacked in the 1970s by an ideology that at its most extreme and passionate was Noah-esque. ‘There was almost an attitude that we needed two of everything; a couple from here, a couple from there, and the more diverse the better, ' he says. ‘They didn't think of the consequences.'”

Please note that 'The Origins of Multiculturalism in Australian Politics 1945-1975' By Mark Lopez (Melbourne University press) has been on my recommended reading list since this site first started in 2001.

And Then They Came After Us, We're at war. How about acting like it?

(26Jul05) First the terrorists of the Middle East went after the Israelis. From 1967 we witnessed 40 years of bombers, child murdering, airline hijacking, suicide murdering, and gratuitous shooting…. And Then They Came After Us, We're at war. How about acting like it? by Victor Davis Hanson .

“ When it was pointed out that Germans were not blowing up Poles to get back lost parts of East Prussia nor were Tibetans sending suicide bombers into Chinese cities to recover their country, such analogies were caricatured…… Then the Islamists declared war on the United States ….Suddenly, the prior cheap shots at Israel under siege weren't so cheap…But then came Madrid …. Surely Holland would be exempt… After Holland , Madrid , and London , European operatives go to Israel not to harangue Jews about the West Bank , but to receive tips about preventing suicide bombings. And the cowboy Patriot Act to now-panicked European parliaments perhaps seems not so illiberal after all….”.

Mugged by Reality

(26Jul05) With hindsight, the defining encounter of the age was not between Mohammed Atta's jet and the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, but that between Mohammed Atta and Johnelle Bryant a year earlier…” Mugged by Reality by Mark Steyn “..For four years, much of the western world behaved like Bryant. Bomb us, and we agonise over the "root causes" (that is, what we did wrong). Decapitate us, and our politicians rush to the nearest mosque to declare that "Islam is a religion of peace". Issue bloodcurdling calls at Friday prayers to kill all the Jews and infidels, and we fret that it may cause a backlash against Muslims

Importing Hatred

(21Jul05)“…the London bombings, perpetrated by home-grown Muslims, makes our silence on such issues not a sign of civility, but suicide.” Importing Hatred   by Andrew Bolt. “…How can Muslim leaders fight terrorism, when the most moderate of them won't condemn even bin Laden, or admit that monster's self-confessed guilt? …. Why did we let in sheiks such as the Jordanian-born Omran, who declares Islam rejects democracy and instructs Muslims to go to Iraq to fight coalition troops? Why did we let in the Egyptian-born Hilaly? How hapless we've been, refusing to admit we were importing a problem that multiculturalism could only make worse..”.

Bat Ye'or's Theory  of The British Collapse

(20July05)“…Dhimmitude is characterised by the victim's siding with his oppressors, by the moral justification the victim provides for his oppressors' hateful behavior, and by the destruction of the victim's own self by a mental enslavement of love and admiration toward his oppressors Bat Ye'or's Theory  of The British Collapse   “:..Mental dhimmitude has been implemented in Europe over the course of 30 years by politicians, intellectuals, the Churches, and the media, all of whom sided with the jihadist Palestinian terrorists against Israel 's wars of liberation from dhimmitude….”

Time to Rethink our Multicultural Society

(20July05) “… Britain is incubating its own suicide bombers and has become the European headquarters for people seeking to indoctrinate them. It is not enough for Blair to "uproot this evil ideology"; he must also treat the soil from which it springs” Time to Rethink our Multicultural Society from Scotland on Sunday “… This is what French and American security forces despairingly call the "Londonistan" problem: that Britain 's liberal tradition provides shelter for terrorists who are kept safe from extradition requests….. The poison has been fermenting in Britain for a long time, especially among Asians with Pakistani links…. It is a sign of the paucity of debate in Britain that multiculturalism is used interchangeably with 'immigration'. It is, instead, a specific form of immigration where the foreigners are not encouraged to integrate.

How a real Big Brother kept an eye on George Orwell, the bohemian communist

(19Jul05) “George Orwell's novel 1984 provides a fictional warning of the dangers of a totalitarian society in which the hero, Winston Smith, struggles with the thought police…” How a real Big Brother kept an eye on George Orwell, the bohemian communist “It now appears that his vision of blanket surveillance in the service of Big Brother was more prescient than even he could have known: a secret Metropolitan police file newly released at the National Archives shows that Orwell was himself the subject of repeated special branch reports for more than 12 years of his life”

This Lethal Moral Madness

(19Jul05) “…..The usual alibis for suicide bombings now stand exposed as bogus. These terrorists were not foreign imports from some far distant conflict. They had not been dispossessed of any land; they did not live in the squalour of refugee camps. They were not destitute or despairing” This Lethal Moral Madness by Melanie Phillips “…This moral inversion is the result of the cultural brainwashing that has been going on in Britain for years in the pursuit of the disastrous doctrine of multiculturalism. This has refused to teach Muslims — along with other minorities — the core of British culture and values...The moral bankruptcy of this victim culture is all around us.... Multiculturalism causes the moral paralysis of ‘victim culture', whereby to say an ethnic minority is at fault is to invite immediate accusations of racism.

The Same Old, Same Old

(16July05)“..The British may react very differently than the Spanish did after Madrid — by doing nothing rather than by retreating from Iraq .  In the corrupt West these days, that is something . We all know the score of this war now in the near four years since September 11. The London bombings should remind us how the old tired game works….”

The Same Old, Same Old (An Anatomy of the London Bombing) by Victor Davis Hanson from the National Review.

The Stages of Jihad

(16July05) “…jihad is always present, even if there should be an absence of violence. Da'wah, missionary work and calling to Islam, is also part of jihad, and is utilized until such a time that physical jihad is made possible through greater numbers. Until then, it is important to make sure that non-Muslims are not fully aware of the real Islamic agenda. This is where deception comes in.” The Stages of Jihad by Wolfgang Bruno

“…The command to fight the infidels openly was delayed until the Muslims become strong, but when they were weak they were commanded to endure and be patient…. The early Koran of the Mecca period presented religious tolerance as a divine command simply because Muslims had not yet acquired the physical power to compel conversion. But when Islam became more powerful after the flight to Medina , the "verses of the sword" were conveniently revealed to the Prophet, verses that sanction and indeed command violence, historically Islam's preferred method of expansion….”

War in Pieces: The Blood Feud

(16July05) They (wars) were fought for economic reasons or for territorial expansion; they were instruments of policy; they had a point and an objective. You knew when a war started, and you knew when it was over. …In the blood feud, the orientation is not to the future, as in war, but to the past…In the blood feud you are avenging yourself on your enemy for something that he did in the past”   War in Pieces: The Blood Feud by Lee Harris “…In the blood feud there is no concept of decisive victory because there is no desire to end the blood feud. Rather the blood feud functions as a permanent "ethical" institution -- it is the way of life for those who participate in it….We in the West cannot imagine a war that goes on forever; but those for whom the blood feud is the established mode of settling difference cannot imagine a world without it…”;

(15Jul05) Reposted from My 'Islamic Issues' Archive : The Revolt of Islam

(11/12/01)  Below is a link to “The Roots of Muslim rage” by Bernard Lewis, published in the Atlantic Monthly in September 1990. Eleven years on, and he has revisited the topic in an in depth and extensive piece in the November 19th 2001 edition of “the New Yorker” magazine. The Revolt of Islam “…When did the conflict with the West begin and how could it end….”he asks??? It is interesting to read, particularly in a post September 11 context.

The Roots of Muslim Rage was first written up in the Atlantic Monthly in September 1990 by Bernard Lewis.

(15Jul05) Reposted from My 'Islamic Issues' Archive :An Arsenal of Believers

(11/12/01) In the November 19th 2001 edition of “the New Yorker” magazine is a fascinating piece, An Arsenal of Believers by Nasra Hassan.  It is about the mindset of the cult of the suicide bombers. The tragedy is of course, that the evil manipulators of the human mind can so thoroughly brainwash and convince people to do what they do. At this level and on this scale and with such murderous intent, “cult” is the only word that adequately describes such obsessive, “Mansonesque”, mass mindlessness. Religion in the name of some divine being, deity or prophet it most definitely is not, no matter what they may believe or what they may have convinced themselves of.

Inside the mind of a terrorist

(15Jul05) No warning? Caught unawares?

“As fear of terror attacks in Britain rises, it is vital to understand what drives young to men carry out atrocities” This piece, Inside the mind of a terrorist was written in the UK observer and was posted on 9 th March 2003 !

“So, fellow Muslims, Osama bin Laden has called us to arms. With the latest excuse for terrorism being the war against Iraq, the old opportunist tells us to address the crusader thus: 'The only language between you and us is the sword that will strike your necks.'”

Horrific Reminder….With Prelude

(12July05) “….No one should have been surprised because Britain, like the United States, has created a welcoming atmosphere for terrorists and allowed them the fertile soil they need to grow and carry out their murderous acts among us…” Horrific Reminder….With Prelude from the Washington Times by Cal Thomas, a nationally syndicated columnist . “…..Just as a lifelong smoker should not be surprised when diagnosed with lung cancer, neither should Britain and America be surprised when people who refuse to adopt Western notions of pluralism, tolerance and individual liberty kill and maim innocent people they and their religious masters label “Zionists and crusaders.”

Lack of History Classes

(12July05) “ …..My greatest fear is not what they can do to us, it is what we can do to them. Save for self-imposed restraint, what is there stopping us from doing unto the entire middle east and beyond what Alexander did to Persia, Rome to Carthage, Europe to the Aztecs and Incas, or even America to the Indians….. My greatest fear is that one day Europe will wake up from her slumber. Remember, this is a continent with a long memory and a long history of being very, very deadly with very little remorse…”    Lack of History Classes . One man's view, Robert Mandel from www.mandelinople.com

“…Their greatest security lies not in defeating us but in becoming us. Their only hope is that which they have eschewed for far too long. And by their hope, I do mean the hope we have for them, not they for themselves…..While London never will, we do know all to well from experience that Baghdad or Tehran could very well end up another Tenochtitlan. (capital city of the Aztecs, sacked and destroyed by Cortes in 1521)

What lies beneath

(12July05) ‘An extreme interpretation of Islam is threatening the world. Not only are we failing to confront it, argues Charles Moore, but even moderate Muslim leaders are too scared to condemn the teachings that give cover to violence' What lies beneath from The Age . Charles Moore is a columnist for Britain's Daily Telegraph.

‘….. Mayor of London, Ken Livingstone said the attacks were not attacks "against the mighty and the powerful", but against "working-class Londoners".'

“…Then Livingstone said: "This is not an ideology or even a perverted faith." Why did he want to say that? How - if, as the authorities tell us, the attacks were carried out by Islamist extremists - could this be true?'

Jihad Terrorism in London

(12July05) Please note that the Yusuf al-Qaradawi referred to in this piece by Andrew G Bostom is the same one lauded and feted by Ken Livingstone the Mayor of London.

“Those myriad intellectuals in denial might now, at last, wish to study with care the continuing legacy of jihad war, and pay serious attention to its modern Muslim proponents—including the renowned jihadist cleric Yusuf al-Qaradawi recently lionized —with tragic irony—by London's own current mayor as a ‘progressive.' ” Jihad Terrorism in London by Andrew G. Boston “…And Qaradawi stated his ultimate goals explicitly—consistent with orthodox jihad ideology—at a Muslim youth convention in 1995 in Toledo, Ohio: ‘ We will conquer Europe, we will conquer America !'. In light of the London bombings, will the West's intellectuals finally awaken to this threat—the jihad? Will they study with seriousness and urgency the theological-juridical underpinnings of the Islamic jihad, and its 14 centuries of brutal, imperialistic conquests, continuing through the present?”

Why Terrorism Works

(12July05) “…Within a day of the horrific multiple bombings in London, the G8 announced a $3B grant to the Palestinian Authority…There were no grants announced to the Tibetans, who have been occupied more brutally and for a longer period of time than the Palestinians…” Why Terrorism Works by Alan M Derhowitz  “…The Tibetans, however, have never resorted to terrorism….  The primary cause of terrorism is not occupation, humiliation, or desperation.  If it were, the Tibetans would be the greatest terrorists.  The primary cause of terrorism is that it works…”

Britain Suddenly Discovers the “T” Word

(12July05) Incredibly, the British press is actually using the "T" word. Yes, they are referring to the London Underground perps as terrorists. Why is this so unusual? Because the British media have been religiously scrupulous in referring to all terrorists and mass murderers who attack Jews as "activists" and "militants" Britain Suddenly Discovers the “T” Word By Steven Plaut   from MidEastTruth   “…The ‘'activists'' and ‘'militants'' are suddenly referred to as ‘'terrorists.'' Even the Guardian and the BBC have discovered the ‘'T'' word…..The governments of Europe, which ordinarily spend their days insisting that Israel deal with terrorists through capitulation, were suddenly enraged, expressing their disgust..... And the BBC has not demanded that the Brits re-examine their own behavior, to discover which manifestation of their arrogance provoked the Al-Qaida savages. The networks were not full of messages about how Moslems regard Gibraltar as their own holy land and that only their liberation to Moslem control can bring peace…”

Suddenly Terror BBC's Double Standards

(12July05) BBC officials insisted that the word terrorism should never be used in order to preserve what they called “neutral language Suddenly Terror BBC's Double Standards

And This is Why They Did It

(12July05) “….Moments after yesterday's attacks my telephone was buzzing with requests for interviews with one recurring question: but what do they want? That reminded me of Theo van Gogh……According to witnesses, Van Gogh begged for mercy and tried to reason with his assailant. “Surely we can discuss this,” he kept saying as the shots kept coming. “Let us talk it over”…..assuming that the man who was killing him may have some reasonable demands which could be discussed in a calm, democratic atmosphere .” And This is Why They Did It by Amir Taheri from The UK TimesOnline “..Sorry, old chaps, you are dealing with an enemy that does not want anything specific, and cannot be talked back into reason through anger management or round-table discussions. Or, rather, this enemy does want something specific: to take full control of your lives, dictate every single move you make round the clock and, if you dare resist, he will feel it his divine duty to kill you.

Opening Shot of “The Ultimate Culture War”

(12July05) “….The advance of Islam into the heart of Europe (and England as well) is not because of Muslims' strategic skills or Islam's "irresistible" appeal to Westerners. Instead, it is because Christian institutions have been hollowed out and corrupted by western liberals… Opening Shot of “The Ultimate Culture War” by Mike Thompson from Human events Online. .”… Europe must decide for itself whether to curb or end its suicidal affair with hostile alien guests. Likewise, the EU's think-alikes in London must look out their windows and examine the angry faces of that gathering mob….For five centuries the Arab Islamic world has plunged from being an advanced centre of learning. Now it is largely perceived (not only by the West but most of the rest of the world) as a deep wallowing pit of malice, ethnic resentment, vindictiveness, vandalism, and the malaise of inferiority….

London's mayor must resign

(12July05) “….With Britain poised at such a sensitive point in its history, it is timely to examine how this occurred, and who, in the British political life, are responsible for the current status quo….. There are a number of unscrupulous characters in British politics who have exploited the boiling cultural divide of certain areas of Britain for their personal and political gain..” London's mayor must resign by Barry Shaw, MidEastTruth.com  “…. Sorry, Ken. You are wrong. You share a major responsibility for their success…For years, the loony Left, epitomized by Red Ken, has encouraged radical Islam to take root in Britain and in London…..they (Livingstone and Galloway) have sanctioned calls to Jihad, and have legitimized the very programs that are now being turned against innocent Londoners, resulting in death, injury, suffering, and grief.
London 's Marxist Mayor has been influential in denying Britain 's proud history, and for introducing radical Islam into Britain ….”

DDT-Eating Scientist exposes eco-fraud

(4Jul05) In 1962, when Rachel Carson published her breakthrough book on the environment, "Silent Spring," J Gordon Edwards was delighted. The young scientist eagerly raced through the first several chapters, but as he did, his anticipation eroded into uneasiness: "I noticed many statements that I realized were false." DDT-Eating Scientist exposes eco-fraud by Jack Cashill. “…..The title of the book derives from an opening "fable" in which a "strange blight" has crept over an imagined American town, casting its "evil spell" and spreading a "strange stillness" across the land. Throughout the book, Carson uses words like "toxins," "contaminants," "hazards," "death-dealing materials," and the inevitable "poison" where others might use "chemical" or "insecticide." And she never lets up…. Carson 's iconic status never slowed Edwards down. In a series of articles and very public presentations, he exposed Carson and others like her who would deceive the public to advance their cause…”

American Zen

(4Jul05) “…While the world debated whether an American guard at Guantanamo really flushed a Koran down a toilet, Robert Mugabe may have bulldozed the homes of 1.5 million Zimbabweans.  Few seem to have cared.” American Zen by Victor Davis Hanson. “…The new general rule: Global morality is established by the degree the United States can be blamed. Millions of lives lost, vast corruption, thousands of refugees — all that can't quite equate with a U.S. soldier showing insensitivity or an American detention center with mere doctors, ethnic food, and religious accommodations.
