But if you get a chance to listen to the enemy talking to his friends, that is invaluable. The worldwide Islamist terror movements are nothing if not voluble and it is amazing how little we listen to them.... Last week The Australian gave extensive coverage to some of the thousands of newly translated documents from the Iraqi government under Saddam Hussein, which indicated a promiscuous and intense relationship between Saddam's government and international terrorism. Saddam was a great backer of Palestinian terrorism, including Hamas.... Hamas began life in 1988 as the Palestinian branch of Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood. It is extremist, committed to terrorism as a way of life and totalitarian in its Islamist ideology... Stock lending racket exposed: Retirees at risk after $1bn Crash
(29 Mar 08) The controversial share market practice of "stock lending" has spectacularly imploded, with the $1billion-plus collapse of a stockbroking firm, threatening millions of dollars worth of Australian retirees' superannuation savings.
“....Melbourne-based Opes Prime - a significant provider of margin loans for investors to buy shares - has been put into administration amid accusations of financial irregularities. ANZ and investment bank Merrill Lynch, which lent $1billion to Opes, yesterday began dumping shares held by Opes on customers' behalf as they sought to recoup their loans. It is thought that customers could lose between $200million and $300million from the fire sale, with some shares being sold at half of current market prices..... Opes's business model involved lending money for people to take out margin loans to buy shares. These included a parcel of 10.79 million shares in Hedley Group sold at half price less than two hours before the pubs business was placed in a trading halt at 11.27am yesterday. It is not known if the two matters are related. Other stocks that were dumped at a discount include retailer Just Group, which was sold at $1-a-share less than its market value....”

In 30 years of operation, the satellites have recorded a warming trend of just 0.14C — well within the range of normal variations.....If the Argos buoys and satellites had confirmed the greenie computer models and Gore hype instead of natural temperature variations, it would have been big news. Duffy : "Is this a matter of any controversy?" Marohasy: "Actually, no. The head of the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) has actually acknowledged it. He talks about the apparent plateau in temperatures so far this century. The report, later amended but widely quoted by environmentalists, actually attributed the deaths to all plastic debris, including fishing nets and equipment....... The claim that the bags kill more than 100,000 marine mammals every year is based on a misinterpretation of a 1987 Canadian study in Newfoundland, which found that, between 1981 and 1984, more than 100,000 animals were killed by discarded nets. Lord Taverne, the chairman of Sense about Science, said: "The Government is irresponsible to jump on a bandwagon that has no base in scientific evidence. "This is one of many examples where you get bad science leading to bad decisions which are counter-productive. "Attacking plastic bags makes people feel good but it doesn't achieve anything."...It's very unlikely that many animals are killed by plastic bags," Dr Santillo said. "The evidence shows just the opposite. We're not going to solve the problem of waste by focusing on plastic bags. On a global basis plastic bags aren't an issue."

Those who bother to check the facts often find that not all those who are called scientists are really scientists and not all of those who are scientists are specialists in climate. But who bothers to check facts these days?.... new and very different conference on global warming will be held in New York City, under the sponsorship of the Heartland Institute, on March 2nd to March 4th — weather permitting..... It is called an "International Conference on Climate Change." Its subtitle is "Global Warming: Truth or Swindle?"
