(31 March 09) Greenland was green + /- 1000 years ago (see below). Green meaning with no or little ice. Enough so the Icelanders could actually farm. Now, with all that land ice absent global sea levels should rise, right??? Well…Now check the global sea levels on this interactive site from Monash University. Click here As you'll see the sea levels were exactly the same as today.
“….From AD 986, Greenland was colonised by Icelanders in two settlements on fjords near the southwesternmost tip of the island. The settlements, such as Brattahlid , thrived for centuries but disappeared sometime in the 1400s, at the time of one given date for the outbreak of the Little Ice Age . Data from ice cores indicate that between AD 800 and 1300 the regions around the fjords of southern Greenland experienced a mild climate, with trees and herbaceous plants growing and livestock being farmed "
After mentioning “ The Argonne Project” last week a number of listeners have asked for more detail. In the book by Tom Blees “Prescription for the Planet” he write about the IFR (Integral Fast Reactor) extensively along with Plasma Converters for disposal of all our waste and Boron for fuelling our transport. These two links below will serve as a basic introduction as to what the IFR is all about.
(30 March 09) “....A nuclear power plant design invented at Argonne National Lab 24 years ago has none of the drawbacks of conventional nuclear plants.... Sadly, most people when they hear "nuclear reactor" or "breeder reactor" react negatively. "Not in my backyard," they say. But that's because of second generation nuclear technology. When people say "no nuclear," they really are referring to "second generation nuclear." Everything about the IFR and fourth generation technology is completely different. The words with negative connotations are no longer negative. Yet we have this bad habit of remembering the bad associations. We have to overcome that. For example, one scientist told me, "Breeding, however, is a dirty word these days, so the GNEP emphasis is on burning the transuranics, instead of using them to assure an expanding source of clean energy into the indefinite future." So, in other words, we are doing stupid things because "breeding" is a dirty word. "Breeding" for the IFR is the nuclear equivalent of "recycling and re-using." That's a good thing, not a bad thing. And the safe word, "burning," is actually a bad thing. So the connotations are actually reversed.....” The Integral Fast Reactor (IFR) project “....We actually gave a group of our smartest scientists funding for 10 years and left them alone to come up with something brilliant so that it could be completed before we actually needed to deploy it. Talk about visionary, long-term thinking! Of course today things are different. Today, Congress is completely shortsighted. So here, in a rare instance of long term strategic investment and vision, our government did something really amazing in funding this project. And the scientists returned that trust by delivering on their promises. And then our government thanks them by pulling the plug on the project just before it was completed. When Bill Clinton cancelled the funding in 1994, he said in his State of the Union speech that he did it because the project was unnecessary, not because it didn't meet any of its objectives. In his speech, he said, "We will terminate unnecessary programs in advanced reactor development."He never asked the National Academy of Sciences to look into whether this project was unnecessary. Why not? Shouldn't you do a little objective research before you pull the plug on the biggest energy research project in history? The Integral Fast Reactor (IFR) technology is arguably the single most important thing we can do to stop global warming....”
(30 March 09) “.....It seems like something that only a crazed conspiracy theorist would come up with. A source of carbon-free energy that holds the potential to provide base load power for the planet for thousands of years hence, and which could be built along the existing transmission grid and even be housed within retrofitted coal-fired power stations. A process that could eat existing nuclear waste instead of needing to store it in highly secure vaults such as Yucca Mountain for hundreds of millennia. A technology that enjoyed large investments in R&D by government, only to have the funding zeroed for political reasons when close to large-scale demonstration — and then the scientists involved told not to publicise this fact. Well that, in caricature, is the basic story of Integral Fast Reactor (IFR) nuclear power ....
Steve Kirsch , a Californian entrepreneur who invented the optical mouse (and former nuclear agnostic), has written a great summary article about IFR here (h/t to JM) and a shorter Silicon Valley newspaper Op Ed here . Steve's website provides a wealth of links to additional information on IFR and related developments. The PBC television programme ‘Frontline' recently interviewed nuclear physicist and IFR co-developer Dr. Charles Till — the transcript is available here . Kirsch summarises the key advantages of IFR as follows: 1 . It can be fueled entirely with material recovered from today's used nuclear fuel. 2 . It consumes virtually all the long-lived radioactive isotopes that worry people who are concerned about the “nuclear waste problem,” reducing the needed isolation time to less than 500 years. 3 . It could provide all the energy needed for centuries (perhaps as many as 50,000 years), feeding only on the uranium that has already been mined. 4 . It uses uranium resources with 100 to 300 times the efficiency of today's reactors. 5 . It does not require enrichment of uranium. 6 . It has less proliferation potential than the reprocessing method now used in several countries. 7 . It's 24×7 baseline power. 8 . It can be built anywhere there is water. 9 . The power is very inexpensive (some estimates are as low as 2 cents/kWh to produce). 10 . Safe from melt down because if something goes wrong, the reactor naturally shuts down rather than blows up. 11 . And, of course, it emits no greenhouse gases.
“......If one thing more than any other is used to justify proposals that the world must spend tens of trillions of dollars on combating global warming, it is the belief that we face a disastrous rise in sea levels. The Antarctic and Greenland ice caps will melt, we are told, warming oceans will expand, and the result will be catastrophe.... But if there is one scientist who knows more about sea levels than anyone else in the world it is the Swedish geologist and physicist Nils-Axel Mörner, formerly chairman of the INQUA International Commission on Sea Level Change. And the uncompromising verdict of Dr Mörner, who for 35 years has been using every known scientific method to study sea levels all over the globe, is that all this talk about the sea rising is nothing but a colossal scare story. Despite fluctuations down as well as up, "the sea is not rising," he says. "It hasn't risen in 50 years." If there is any rise this century it will "not be more than 10cm (four inches), with an uncertainty of plus or minus 10cm". And quite apart from examining the hard evidence, he says, the elementary laws of physics (latent heat needed to melt ice) tell us that the apocalypse conjured up by
Al Gore and Co could not possibly come about......” The rise of sea Levels is ‘the greatest lie ever told' , Christopher Booker, Sunday Telegraph “.....When running the International Commission on Sea Level Change, he launched a special project on the Maldives, whose leaders have for 20 years been calling for vast sums of international aid to stave off disaster. Six times he and his expert team visited the islands, to confirm that the sea has not risen for half a century. Before announcing his findings, he offered to show the inhabitants a film explaining why they had nothing to worry about. The government refused to let it be shown. Similarly in Tuvalu, where local leaders have been calling for the inhabitants to be evacuated for 20 years, the sea has if anything dropped in recent decades. The only evidence the scaremongers can cite is based on the fact that extracting groundwater for pineapple growing has allowed seawater to seep in to replace it..... When I spoke to Dr Mörner last week, he expressed his continuing dismay at how the IPCC has fed the scare on this crucial issue. When asked to act as an "expert reviewer" on the IPCC's last two reports, he was "astonished to find that not one of their 22 contributing authors on sea levels was a sea level specialist: not one". Yet the results of all this "deliberate ignorance" and reliance on rigged computer models have become the most powerful single driver of the entire warmist hysteria.....”
(29 March 09) “.....United Nations document on "climate change" that will be distributed to a major environmental conclave next week envisions a huge reordering of the world economy, likely involving trillions of dollars in wealth transfer, millions of job losses and gains, new taxes, industrial relocations, new tariffs and subsidies, and complicated payments for greenhouse gas abatement schemes and carbon taxes — all under the supervision of the world body. Those and other results are blandly discussed in a discretely worded United Nations "information note" on potential consequences of the measures that industrialized countries will likely have to take to implement the Copenhagen Accord, the successor to the Kyoto Treaty, after it is negotiated and signed by December 2009. The Obama administration has said it supports the treaty process if, in the words of a U.S. State Department spokesman, it can come up with an "effective framework" for dealing with global warming......he 16-page note, obtained by FOX News, will be distributed to participants at a mammoth negotiating session that starts on March 29 in Bonn, Germany, the first of three sessions intended to hammer out the actual commitments involved in the new deal....” UN ‘Climate Change' Plan Would Likely Shift Trillions to Form New World Economy Fox News “..... Getting that deal done has become the United Nations' highest priority, and the Bonn meeting is seen as a critical step along the path to what the U.N. calls an "ambitious and effective international response to climate change," which is intended to culminate at the later gathering in Copenhagen..... Among the tools that are considered are the cap-and-trade system for controlling carbon emissions that has been espoused by the Obama administration; "carbon taxes" on imported fuels and energy-intensive goods and industries, including airline transportation; and lower subsidies for those same goods, as well as new or higher subsidies for goods that are considered "environmentally sound."Other tools are referred to only vaguely, including "energy policy reform," which the report indicates could affect "large-scale transportation infrastructure such as roads, rail and airports." When it comes to the results of such reform, the note says only that it could have "positive consequences for alternative transportation providers and producers of alternative fuels."
(29 March 09) “….Kevin Rudd's semi-secret meeting on Saturday with Li Changchun, the Chinese politburo member in charge of propaganda, media and ideology, is one of the most bizarre episodes of his prime ministership. It is almost certainly more stupid than sinister, but it does raise legitimate questions about Chinese influence in Australia. Li is ranked No.5 in China's nine-member ruling politburo standing committee….. Li's visit should occasion a serious examination of the exercise of Chinese soft power in Australia. It can benefit from as much transparency and public scrutiny as possible…..They seem to have three central messages for Australians. We must not support Tibet's Dalai Lama. We must support the Chinalco bid for a large stake in Australian miner Rio Tinto. And we should know that Chinalco, though wholly owned by the Chinese Government, is an independent commercial entity run at more than arm's length from the Chinese Government. If you notice some tension between the second and third propositions, perhaps you are not alone. However, the chutzpah of the Chinese official position is remarkable. Just as they are telling us Chinalco is not directly related to the Chinese Government, the former president of Chinalco, Xiao Yaqing, has been appointed to the Chinese cabinet. China's belief that it can simply assert its position, no matter how obviously ridiculous, and Australians will ultimately accept it is disconcerting, to say the least….” China's iron-fisted PR , Greg Sheridan The Australian “….Broader exercise of Chinese power in Australia should be a preoccupation of the media. Chinalco is just one example, though it is instructive. Chinalco gave $250,000 to the Australia China Business Council to produce reports on the benefits of Chinese investment in Australia. It has signed up as a corporate sponsor of the Lowy Institute for International Policy. More generally, the Chinese Government has sponsored the creation of four Confucius Institutes at Australian universities. Former Australian consul general in Hong Kong and University of Sydney visiting professor Jocelyn Chey has labelled the institutes as propaganda vehicles for the Chinese Communist Party….. Sponsoring think tanks and university organisations is, of course, perfectly normal. There do seem to be much more ruthless examples of Chinese power in Australia, however. Last year there were quite serious assaults by pro-Beijing demonstrators against pro-Tibetan demonstrators in several Australian cities when the Olympic torch relay was held. The Chinese embassy helped organise the demonstrations. Would we accept that behaviour from any other embassy in Australia? Because the Chinese Government runs such an integrated and ruthless global operation in pursuit of power, it is legitimate to consider all these things together, especially when the key doubt about Chinalco is whether it will act in an authentically commercial fashion. Rudd's strange meeting with Li can only exacerbate those doubts…..”
(29 March 09) “…..The idea that ‘climate change denial' is a psychological disorder – the product of a spiteful, wilful or simply in-built neural inability to face up to the catastrophe of global warming – is becoming more and more popular amongst green-leaning activists and academics. And nothing better sums up the elitism and authoritarianism of the environmentalist lobby than its psychologisation of dissent. The labelling of any criticism of the politics of global warming, first as ‘denial', and now as evidence of mass psychological instability, is an attempt to write off all critics and sceptics as deranged, and to lay the ground for inevitable authoritarian solutions to the problem of climate change…..This weekend, the University of West England is hosting a major conference on climate change denial. Strikingly, it's being organised by the university's Centre for Psycho-Social Studies. It will be a gathering of those from the top of society – ‘psychotherapists, social researchers, climate change activists, eco-psychologists' – who will analyse those at the bottom of society, as if we were so many flitting, irrational amoeba under an eco-microscope. The organisers say the conference will explore how ‘denial' is a product of both ‘addiction and consumption' and is the ‘consequence of living in a perverse culture which encourages collusion, complacency and irresponsibility'……Leading green writers have welcomed the West England get-together to study the denying masses. One eco-columnist says the conference might generate ideas for dealing with those who are ‘pathologically' opposed to the environmental movement…. . ” Climate Change Denial Is A Mental Disorder , The Skepticalfarmer.com “…..University departments, serious authors, think-tanks and radical activists are embracing the ‘psychological disorder' view of climate change scepticism. At Columbia University in New York, the Global Roundtable on Public Attitudes to Climate Change studies the ‘completely baffling' response of the public to the threat of climate change…..The labelling of those who question certain scientific ideas or green ways of life as ‘deniers', ‘addicts' and ‘reptiles' with a ‘baffling' inability to understand The Science and act accordingly has a deeply censorious bent. If ‘climate change denial' is a form of mass denial and self-deception, a fundamentally psychological disorder, then there is no need to engage in a meaningful public debate; instead people just need to be treated…..The psychologisation of climate change denial – even the very use of that term: denial – reveals how utterly aloof and cut off are the environmental elitists from mass society…. In the Soviet Union, outspoken critics of the ruling party were frequently tagged as mentally disordered and faced, as one Soviet dissident described it, ‘political exile to mental institutions' (11). There they would be treated with narcotics, tranquillisers and even electric shock therapy. In George Orwell's Nineteen Eighty-Four , O'Brien, the torturer in Room 101, offers to cure our hero Winston Smith of his anti-party thinking…..”
(26 March 09) “....An MEP (Member of the European Parliament) Daniel Hannan's withering attack on Gordon Brown in which he likens him to a " Brezhnev era apparatchik " has become a surprise hit on the internet. In a blistering riposte to the Premier's calls for a concerted international effort to tackle the crisis, he accused the former Chancellor of trying to "spread the blame" and called him a "devalued Prime Minister". The three-and-a-half minute speech, which drew cheers and laughter from fellow MEPs in Strasbourg, was not covered on mainstream broadcasts. But it was posted on the video sharing website YouTube shortly after the sitting and attracted 90,000 viewers within 24 hours after being picked up by US news outlets and political blogs. In the most critical passage, he told the Prime Minister: “When you repeat, in that wooden and perfunctory way, that our situation is better than others, that we are well placed to weather the storm, I have to tell you, you sound like a Brezhnev-era apparatchik giving the party line.... Borrowing a maritime analogy, he said: “Other ships used the good years to caulk their hulls and clear their rigging – in other words, to pay off debt. “But you used the good years to raise borrowing yet further. He added that said that Britain already had a worse deficit than Pakistan or Hungary, two countries which have already sought the help of the IMF.

(25 March 09) “.....A clash of civilizations may be taking place on the battlefields of Iraq and Afghanistan, but it's also happening a lot more quietly in European cities. Old Europe's population is dwindling even as immigration and high birth rates among Muslim groups are swelling in cities all over the continent.... Filip Dewinter, a leader of the far-right separatist party Vlaams Belang, predicts there will eventually be a kind of civil war when the longtime residents of Brussels — the nation's capital and administrative seat of the European Union — realize their city is about to be taken over by Muslim immigrants. Although there are no official statistics on how many Muslims live in Brussels, it is believed they make up about 25 percent of the city's 1 million urban residents....” Politicians Fret as Muslim Population Swells in Europe Amid Little Integration , Greg Burke, Fox News “.....The mayor of Molenbeek, Socialist Philippe Moureaux, has worked hard to help Muslims try to integrate over the past decade and a half.... Many Moroccans have been in Belgium for decades and are now citizens, as are their children.... Molenbeek remains disconcerting..... Part of that fear stems from particularly nasty street crime, something that can happen in bad neighborhoods in any big European — or American — city. But part of it is due to strong anti-Western sentiment among Belgium's Muslims, which suggests that true integration is still a long way off..... The anti-immigrant Vlaams Belang, once considered a pariah party, now controls about 24 percent of the Belgian vote, a trend matched in other European countries with burgeoning Muslim populations. Though the immigration debate has not yet reached the fever pitch it has in the U.S., a real test will come when a major European city has a Muslim majority. The first could be Marseilles, in France, or Amsterdam, in the Netherlands. But don't count out Brussels, the heart and capital of Europe.....”
(25 March 09) "....The best way to destroy the capitalist system is to debauch the currency," said Lord Keynes. Ben Bernanke disagrees. A student of the Depression, the Fed chair appears far more fearful of deflation – a vicious cycle of falling prices, debt defaults, home foreclosures and rising unemployment. Deflation is what America underwent in the 1930s. A Fed-created bubble burst, causing margin calls to go out to stockholders, who ran to their banks that, besieged, collapsed, wiping out a third of our money..... Is Bernanke fighting the war of 1929 in 2009? Surely, today, with the explosion in M1, the basic money supply, there is no shortage of dollars out there, even if they are not circulating fast enough. To end our recession, Bernanke may be running an even greater risk: hyperinflation. This has destroyed more nations than deflation or even depression..... "The first panacea for a mismanaged nation," said Ernest Hemingway, "is inflation of the currency; the second is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; both bring a permanent ruin. But both are the refuge of political and economic opportunists." Which brings us to last week's shocker. The Fed will buy up $300 billion in long-term Treasury bonds and spend $750 billion more buying sub-prime mortgages to remove them from the balance sheets of ailing big banks, to get the banks lending again. Bernanke is printing money to buy U.S. bonds.....” Dr Bernanke keeps us on heroin , Patrick J.Buchanan “....Congressional Budget Office estimate that this year's deficit will be $1.85 trillion, 13.1 percent of gross domestic product, more than twice the share of the U.S. economy of the largest previous post-war deficit ..... The Fed seems to have confirmed the fears of Premier Wen Jiabao, who said that China is "definitely a little worried" about the value of the U.S. bonds Beijing has purchased with the dollars piled up from her trade surpluses with the United States. Can one blame the Chinese? They have already been burned on their U.S. investments ....Inflation is theft. It makes liars and cheats of governments. By eroding the value of a currency, inflation punishes savers and creditors and rewards debtors. And what nation is the biggest debtor of them all? The United States of America.....one senses that we are doing again exactly what we have done before in this generation. Rather than endure the pain and accept the sacrifices to cure us of our addiction, we are going back to the heroin. And this time, with Dr. Bernanke handling the needle, we may just overdose.....”
(25 March 09)“.....As the U.S. financial crisis broadens and deepens, wiping out the wealth and savings of tens of millions, destroying hopes and dreams, it is hard not to see in all of this history's verdict upon this generation. We have been weighed in the balance and found wanting.....It all began with the corruption called sub-prime mortgages. The motivation was not wicked. Democrats wanted to raise home ownership among African-Americans from 50 percent to 75 percent of white folks. Rove Republicans wanted to do the same for Hispanics. Banks were morally pressured by politicians into making home loans to folks who could not remotely qualify under standards set by decades of experience with mortgage defaults.....Computer whizzes devised exotic instruments – derivatives, which could soar in value, making instant multimillionaires, but also plummet, based on rises and dips in the underlying value of the paper.... Who kept the game going? The Federal Reserve, by keeping interest rates low and money gushing into the economy, created the bubble that saw housing prices rise annually at 10, 15 and 20 percent.....” This generation: Unfit to govern , Parick J. Buchanan “.....There are the politicians who bullied banks into making loans the banks knew were bad to begin with and would never have made without threats or the promise of political favors. There is that den of thieves at Fannie and Freddie who massaged the politicians with campaign contributions and walked away from the wreckage with tens of millions in salaries and bonuses..... In short, this generation of political and financial elites has proven itself unfit to govern a great nation. What we have is a system failure that is rooted in a societal failure. Behind our disaster lie the greed, stupidity and incompetence of the Does Dr. Obama have the cure for the sickness that ails the republic? He is going to borrow and spend trillions more to bring back the good old days, though it was the good old days that brought us to the edge of the abyss into which we have fallen. Then he is going to spend new trillions to give us benefits we do not now have, though the national debt is surging to 100 percent of the Gross National Product, and may reach there by 2011. Is he willing to say that home ownership is for those with sound credit and solid jobs?
(20 March 09) “.... A new US study claims that prospects for green jobs are being grossly overhyped. Undertaken at the Institute for Energy Research by a group including Andrew Morriss of the University of Illinois and Roger Meiners of the University of Texas-Arlington, the study argues that organisations such as the UN Environment Program, the US Conference of Mayors and the American Solar Energy Society have all "overhyped the potential to create good jobs" and overlooked the job losses in conventional industries.... There is no standard definition of a green job but in the US it seems to include large numbers of clerical, bureaucratic and administrative positions that do not produce goods and services for consumption. The big flaw is the promotion of more American jobs instead of more productivity.....” Few jobs replace carbon clouds , Keith Orchison, The Australian “.... The institute suggests that the real purpose of the green jobs initiative is not to create jobs but to remake society. To shift economies away from decentralised decision-making in favour of central planning. To determine the choices faced by consumers and workers and, I would add, investors. Says the study, "By wrapping these shifts in the green jobs mantle it is hoped to avoid a debate over the vast cost of the changes proposed." Most of the Australian green jobs talk seems to have its genesis in a mid-2008 CSIRO study - commissioned by the environmental movement - that predicted a tough emissions trading scheme would create a green-collar workforce over two decades, but added that more than three million workers would need to be retrained. The CSIRO report appeared well before the global economic tsunami hit these shores - and must have been researched even earlier when the boom was booming - but it made one observation that is still highly relevant. Thirty per cent of Australian workers, it noted, are employed in the industries that create up to 90 per cent of the carbon impacts, including: agriculture, food and drink production, mining, petroleum, manufacturing, aluminium production and road transport. Shifting them to green jobs seems highly improbable....”
(18 March 09) “....Influential books like Herman Kahn's The Emerging Japanese Superstate had forecast Japanese economic dominance. Japanese cars challenged car makers in the US and around the globe. Sony bought out Columbia Pictures prompting fears Japanese interests would take over Hollywood. Then the Japanese property bubble burst. Japanese banks were swamped by bad debts. The value of their securities plummeted. The Japanese government announced a stimulus plan. When it didn't do much good, it concluded that the first plan hadn't been large enough. It announced a second, larger plan. When that failed, a third plan larger again was announced. Over the decade from 1990, Japan had at least 10 stimulus plans which in total amounted to about 30 trillion Yen. There were at least three recessions during the decade - a decade described as a lost decade for Japan. Japan emerged with crippling government debt - greater than the size of its GDP.....” Japan's lost decade is a lesson for us all , Peter Costello Sydney Morning Herald “....No one thinks Japan is the likely global economic super power of tomorrow....Now, the United States has seen a property bubble collapse, its banks are riddled with bad debts and it is in recession. It has reacted with massive stimulus packages. When Japan was receiving this treatment in the 1990s, the Clinton administration was in office. Two of the key figures urging Japan on to large budget stimulus were Larry Summers and Tim Geithner. Now they are key advisers in the Obama Administration..,..When all the stimulus packages are over, the debt is still there. And it has to be borrowed from someone. And when confidence returns to the market, and there are higher competing returns on offer, the interest rate to service that debt will be so much higher....”

(17 March 09) “......Blacks are not given enough credit for being trendsetters in America. Blacks started playing the blues, jazz, and R&B, then the rest of America started playing them. Blacks discovered the politics of victimhood, then the rest of America started catching on. Black women got into having babies without marriage. Then white women started getting into it and the incidence of white out-of-wedlock births today -- almost 30 percent -- is higher than the black rate in the 1960's..... Blacks bought into dependency and the welfare state. Now the rest of America has bought in. Blacks for years elected politicians championing public policy that destroyed their own communities. Now the rest of America has installed a new political leadership with the perfect formula -- run roughshod over private ownership, disdain traditional values, substitute political power for personal responsibility -- for destroying our country. We can expect the rest of America to reap the same benefits that blacks have enjoyed from this lunacy. In the late 1960's, when President Lyndon B. Johnson announced his war on poverty and seeded welfare-state culture in our inner cities, the majority of black families had married parents living at home......” Inner cities a snap shot of America's Future , Star Parker “...... By 1995 only 1 in 3 black homes had married parents..... Not surprisingly, the black poverty rate, almost a quarter of the black population, has remained frozen at twice the national average since the late 1960's..... Why, then, when poor immigrant families readily move in one generation into the middle class, does one fourth of black America remain poor, generation after generation? Racism? I don't think so. Black poverty is overwhelmingly a phenomenon of single mother homes. The incidence of poverty in black homes with married parents is around 10 percent, well below the national average. It's what happens when lives get politicized and people are instructed to be helpless. In the case of blacks, it's being taught that America is inherently racist and that their only hope is political protection from white exploitation. Our politicians tell us now that we need to turn the whole country over to them because capitalism has supposedly failed and we need protection from exploitation by the wealthy.... Anyone who is curious where the current left-wing takeover of our economy will lead, with government soon taking 40 cents out of every dollar we produce, should tour through any of America's inner cities.....”
(17 March 09) “......The central principle of multiculturalism is that all cultures are equal and should be equally celebrated. To say that all cultures are equal is also to necessarily say that all cultural practices are equal, thereby revealing the moral relativism at the heart of the multicultural project. That has, of course, always been the problem with such thinking. It leads to a moral dead end in which it is impossible to say that anything is actually bad because nothing can be worse than anything else (except for Western culture, which is inherently oppressive). Multiculturalism of this sort reflects little more than cultural affirmative action in which the myth of the equality of cultures is maintained only by demonizing Western culture, whatever its virtues, and boosting all others, however ugly and backward..... The bizarre nature of anti-Western multiculturalism is revealed when realizing that, to the extent civilized norms have spread throughout the world over time, they have spread only because of Western influence. Indeed, multiculturalism itself is a purely Western conception.....” The new barbarians Bradley R. Gitz “..... It is only Western culture that emphasizes respect for other cultures and criticism of its own.....The international politics analyst Fareed Zakaria argued in a recent Newsweek column that we are going to have to get used to living with radical Islam because Muslims prefer to live under it. .... Even assuming that, however unlikely, some kind of peaceful coexistence can be arranged between the West and Islamism so that Islamist terrorism no longer threatens the West with a repeat of 9/11, will it be desirable or even possible for Western societies such as ours to close our eyes, plug our ears and "see no evil" in a world where Islamist values come to predominate? If human rights matter to us, can we stand idly by and see them violated so outrageously in such parts of the world? Or is it, as the multiculturalists would have it, culturally imperialistic to even ask such a question, containing as it does the assumption that Western values are universal?

US law enforcement agencies are concerned young militants could return to the US to plot terror attacks, following a similar path to the British Pakistanis behind the London bombings in July 7, 2005 who made multiple visits to radical mosques in Pakistan....” US facing home-grown Islamic terror threat UK Telegraph “.....The FBI suspects the men were radicalised by classes at the Minneapolis and St Paul mosques, and has issued grand jury subpoenas as it attempts to find out who their teachers were, what they were taught and who funded and facilitated their travel.... Bruce Hoffman, a former adviser on counter-terrorism to the CIA, said he believed that similar problems were merely taking longer to surface in the US because Somali immigration began in the 1980s, much later than the postcolonial immigration to Europe........ "I wonder if now we are not catching up and finding that problems which are so consuming the UK are coming here," said Mr Hoffman, "al-Qaeda's aim has always been to have people inside the US with US passports. (15 March 09) “....The West has become scared to criticise Islam and accepts death threats by Muslim extremists as normal, Cardinal George Pell has suggested in a speech in England. The outspoken Catholic Archbishop of Sydney said laws intended to promote tolerance were being used to stifle debate, which was "fermenting intolerance under the surface".In the March 6 speech at Oxford University, he also attacked a global campaign of "bullying and intimidation" by secular groups trying to drive Christians from public debate and stop churches providing schools, hospitals and welfare. "Many in the West have grown used to practising self-censorship when it comes to Islam, just as we seem to accept that ex-Muslims who criticise Islam and extremism, such as Ayaan Hirsi Ali, require round-the-clock police protection.....” Pell believes West now scared of criticising Islam , Barney Swartz, The Age “..... You can be persecuted for hate speech if you discuss violence in Islam, but there is little fear of a hate-speech prosecution for Muslim demonstrators with placards reading 'Hamas, Hamas, Jews to the gas'."He said the expense and time of defending frivolous hate-speech allegations and the anxiety from "being enmeshed in a legal process straight out of Kafka" stifled robust discussion." No one in the West today would suggest that criticism of Christianity should be outlawed," he said. "The secular and religious intolerance of our day needs to be confronted regularly and publicly." Some secularists wanted a one-way street, and sought to drive Christianity not only from the public square but from providing education, health care and welfare to the wider community. "Modern liberalism has strong totalitarian tendencies," Cardinal Pell said Christians urgently needed to deepen public understanding about religious freedom...”.
(13 March 09) “.....It's not just soldiers who win wars. Governments also have a crucial role to play – and to judge by the response of most Western governments to the threat we face from radical Islamism, we are simply not competing on equal terms with the enemy..... After senior officers confirmed last year that British Muslims were fighting with the Taliban in southern Afghanistan, it was revealed that RAF Nimrod surveillance planes monitoring Taliban radio stations were surprised to hear insurgents speaking in strong Yorkshire or Midlands accents....The active involvement of radical British Muslims in the Afghan insurgency has led senior officers to claim that they are engaged in a "surreal mini-civil war" in Afghanistan. And yet, for all the compelling evidence that British-based Islamist radicals are actively participating in a jihad against Britain and its coalition allies, the Government, together with those who have opposed our involvement in the War on Terror from the start, seems determined to give the Islamist radicals the benefit of the doubt....” Britain is fighting a war-and we are too soft on our enemies , UK Telegraph “...Twice in the past year I have been admonished by our military establishment for revealing details about the support British sympathisers are providing to the Afghan insurgency, whether it involves actually fighting alongside the Taliban or providing them with the means to kill and maim British personnel...... The authorities' response in Luton is symptomatic of the perverse attitude that seems to have become Britain's default position when confronted by difficult Islamist issues. When the former Guantánamo detainee Binyam Mohamed claimed that British intelligence officials were complicit in his torture, the main focus of the controversy was the alleged collusion of ministers, rather than precisely what Mr Mohamed was doing in Afghanistan....”.
(13 March 09) “.....One of the most moving but little-known episodes of the Second World War was Operation Exodus when, in the early summer of 1945, the RAF flew home tens of thousands of liberated British prisoners of war from northern Europe. Many had been incarcerated for five years in German PoW camps until they were freed by the Allies. As the planes flew over the English Channel and the white cliffs of Dover came into view, the spirits of this bedraggled but heroic army soared. Some cheered, others whistled. A few brave souls sat still with tears rolling down their cheeks. They were almost back in their native land where they would be treated with the warmth and respect that their sacrifices had earned. But in fragmented modern Britain, returning heroes are guaranteed no such welcome. This is a land where patriotism has been eroded and the very concept of Britishness is vanishing. As a result of mass immigration and the ideology of multiculturalism, those who risk their lives on our behalf are no longer honoured in the way that they deserve.... That was made all too graphically clear this week in the disgraceful scenes that marred the homecoming parade from Iraq of the 2nd Battalion, the Royal Anglian Regiment, in Luton in Bedfordshire.... . There are now large numbers of Muslim zealots living here who have no allegiance whatsoever to this country. Their loyalty is to the brutal, alien ideology of Islamism that seeks to conquer the West. It is often asked, quite reasonably, that if these jihadists hate Britain so much why don't they go and live in a theocratic regime like Iran, which is more in tune with their bullying, misogynistic, totalitarian intolerance. But this misses the point. These militants are seeking the Islamification of Europe. They will not be content until the wail of the mosque sounds through Britain and the Islamic flag flies over Downing Street....” Britain is in grave danger from the new enemy within , Leo McKinstry. Daily Express “.... It is the Labour Government which destroyed our borders, allowing a vast floodtide of immigrants from Muslim coun tries to settle here. And it is Labour which has aggressively imposed the creed of multiculturalism, which promotes the belief that immigrants should cling to their own cultures....That is why in Luton this week they ended up in the grotesque position of protecting the Muslim abusers. Tellingly, the only arrests made were of two people loudly expressing support for the Royal Anglian Regiment... when it comes to Muslim extremists the police are utterly craven. Other anti-war protesters are quickly arrested, such as Maya Evans, who was apprehended in 2005 while reading a list of the British troops killed in Iraq at the Cenotaph in London. Nothing, though, happens to Islamic pro- testers indulging in far more aggressive conduct. The instinct is to appease all the time. Bedfordshire police, under the politically correct leadership of Chief Constable Gillian Parker, is a classic example of this pattern. Her force has, for instance, issued an 18-point set of guide- lines to officers on the need to show the most exquisite sensi- tivity towards Muslim suspects. Officers are therefore advised to remove their shoes before entering a Muslim house, ban sniffer dogs from the premises and avoid disrupting prayers. This is justified, she says, on the basis that “the Muslim community feels victimised....”
(13 March 09) “.....No doubt you've seen the ads: The music is dramatic. The scene is tragic. The message emotional. Polar Bears, holding on for dear life to bits of ice, their artic habitat destroyed by Global Warming. And the narration tells you of the tragic fate of the bears, all because of man and his selfish destruction of the earth. Of course, the ad ends with a plea for funds to help the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) protect the bears and stop Global Warming. Cute, fuzzy animals always do the trick... Trouble is, it's all a lie. Not one word of the ad is true. Polar Bears are not endangered. There is no indication of any reduction of their populations...... Using the Polar Bear, which WWF and the Sierra Club managed to get listed on the Endangered Species (ESA) list last year, the greens can grab control of the U.S. economy, controlling energy production....” The World Wildlife Fund's Polar Bear Lies , Tom De Weese “..... former U.S. Fish and Wildlife Director Dale Hall confirmed that if a coal-fired power plant in Arizona were seeking a federal permit, with the Polar Bear listed as protected by the ESA, the Fish and Wildlife Service would have to consult on the permit. In other words, a power plant located thousands of miles away from Polar Bear habitat would be considered a danger – because of global warming. How could any industry be possible? And that's just the way WWF wants it....It is time we fight back against these zealots who put anything else on earth ahead of man. Taking donations based on lies is fraud and WWF should be called on it......The World Wildlife Fund is dangerous to our way of life – to our very civilization. We should no longer just treat them like some nice folks with a different point of view. Political debate is one thing, outright fraud is criminal....”
(11 March 09)“......What we are trying to accomplish with this conference is to present to the politicians and to the public that the debate is not over about global warming or climate change; that there is plenty of room for disagreement; and that sound science shows that the earth is not warming.... For much of the latter part of the 20th century there's been a mild warming as we come out of an ice age -- but the planet today is much cooler than it was a thousand years ago..... This is the second major international conference devoted to answering questions overlooked by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. A diverse, much larger audience of about 700 people, including scientists, economists, elected officials, public policy experts from around the world is attending this year....The event demonstrates once again the breadth and high quality of support that the “skeptical” perspective on climate change enjoys. About 80 speakers representing Brazil, Canada, Spain, Australia, New Zealand, England, Sweden, Israel, the United States, and more are on the schedule, with US speaker affiliations including Wharton, MIT, George Mason, NOAA, NASA, and US Dept of Energy. The roster of speakers has hundreds of peer-reviewed papers to its credit, with listed credentials including physicist, astrophysicist, astronaut, state climatologist, meteorologist, geologist, climate modeler, carbon accountant, economist, politician, hydrologist, environmentalist, paleoclimatologist, oceanographer, insects and infectious disease expert, Nobel prize-winning IPCC member, and founder of the Weather Channel..... Report from the 2009 International Conference on Climate Change , Tom Nelson “......(Fred) Singer asks in the preface to the upcoming report of the Nongovernmental International Panel on Climate Change, “Why have the IPCC reports been marred by controversy and so frequently contradicted by subsequent research? Václav Klaus, president of the European Union and of the Czech Republic and author of "Blue Planet in Green Shackles" gave a powerful keynote address entitled "No Progress in the Climate Change Debate". He spoke of a closed session at the World Economic Forum in Davos a few weeks ago, with several IPCC officials and “experts” like Al Gore, Tony Blair and Kofi Annan in attendance. Klaus said that "All the participants of the meeting took man-made global warming for granted, were convinced of its dangerous consequences and more or less competed in one special discipline – whether to suggest a 20, 30, 50 or 80% CO2 emissions cut as an agreed-upon, world-wide project." Klaus said that the IPCC Summaries for Policymakers "do not represent science, but politics and environmental activism ". He then attacked the "consensus" view of climate science, maintaining that for a doubling of global carbon dioxide concentration, the global average surface temperature will increase by not more than about 0.5 degrees Celsius....A lot of skeptics seemed to share a similar story: believing in climate alarmism at first, then becoming highly skeptical after checking out the evidence for themselves. As more and more people inevitably head down this path, it seems that the ultimate failure of the alarmist agenda is assured, with the only question being how much damage is done in the meantime....”
Remember this from last month...
“(16 Feb 09) .....If anyone had doubted the extent to which Britain has capitulated to Islamic terror, the banning of Geert Wilders a few hours ago should surely open their eyes..... Lord Ahmed had previously threatened the House of Lords authorities that he would bring a force of 10,000 Muslims to lay siege to the Lords if Wilders was allowed to speak.... But now the government has announced that it is banning Wilders from the country..... let's get this straight. The British government allows people to march through British streets screaming support for Hamas, it allows Hizb ut Tahrir to recruit on campus for the jihad against Britain and the west, it takes no action against a Muslim peer who threatens mass intimidation of Parliament, but it bans from the country a member of parliament of a European democracy who wishes to address the British Parliament on the threat to life and liberty in the west from religious fascism...”
Let's bring this up to date... Home from the war and our soldiers are abused by Muslim protestors (11 March 09)
(11 March 09) “......In 1945, the United Kingdom implemented a program of change at the hands of a new left wing government. The structure of support built up in previous decades, the way change was sold to the public, outcomes themselves have much to teach us about America's future.... relatively few Americans may be aware that, despite his historic victory over one of the most evil regimes in history, Churchill was unceremoniously booted by British voters when his Conservative Party was defeated within weeks of Germany's surrender. What followed marked the beginning of the end for the greatest empire since Rome. The election of 1945 was a decisive victory for Britain's Labour Party. Labour gained 394 seats in the 640-seat House of Commons, named Clement Attlee as Prime Minister, and implemented historic changes in Britain, turning a once-great empire into a second-rate socialist welfare state in a span of 20 years....The Labour government nationalized key industries in Britain, including rail, mining, air transport, utilities, and communications. Labour also created a "cradle-to-grave" welfare state and nationalized medicine with the creation of the National Health Service. Oppressive taxation was enacted to pay for the massive increase in government spending; by the 1970s income and estate taxes on the wealthy had skyrocketed to 80%...... By the 1960s, the Labour Party had overturned nearly all of the traditional aspects of a British culture that had been historically staid, stoic, and reserved... Consequently, today's Britain is a land of social dysfunction, including high rates of drunkenness, property crime, welfare dependency, racial strife, promiscuity and irreligiosity...... Although Britain's Conservatives managed to form governments in the postwar period, they were unable to fully reverse the changes implemented by Labour.....” Obama and the triumph of the Fabians , Michael Filozof, American Thinker “.... The Britain that strode across the world as an economic and military colossus during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries - bringing technology, learning, literature, order, and an unprecedented creation of wealth -- was gone forever by the 1960s...... These changes did not take place by accident. They were planned by British cultural elites, particularly by members of the Fabian Society, who had worked for over a half-century to promote the policies finally implemented by Labour governments after 1945. The Fabians advocated a gradual, democratic socialist takeover rather than violent revolution. Fabians sought control over more banal aspects of life -- transport, utilities, medicine -- that were far less threatening to the general public than the prospect of armed revolution..... Just as the Fabians influenced the Labour Party agenda, today's Democratic Party reflects the disproportionate influence of a clique of elite cultural and academic leftists now seeking to implement a socialist agenda they have been promoting since the 1960s....... Like the Fabian-influenced Labour government, the Obama administration has embarked on a course to "remake" America. The administration will effectively nationalize transportation and utilities through its "green energy" initiatives openly seeks to nationalize health care and is using the mortgage and banking crisis to effectively nationalize the financial services and banking sector.... The agenda of the American Left bears an uncomfortable similarity to that of the Fabian Society intellectuals that reshaped British society. If this agenda is successfully implemented by Barack Obama, the election of 2008 in the United States will be a watershed event, much like the British election of 1945.....”
(10March09) “.......William Happer is hardly a climate change "denier." A physics professor at Princeton, he is a former director of energy research for the U. S. Department of Energy, where he supervised work on climate change between 1990 and 1993. He is also one of the world's leading experts on "the interactions of visible and infrared radiation with gases," and on carbon dioxide and the greenhouse effect...... Prof. Happer added that while CO2 concentrations have risen steadily for more than 100 years, warming began before that -- 200 years ago -- and even during the time when temperatures and carbon concentrations have risen together, the link has hardly been consistent. For instance, while CO2 was rising rapidly from 1950 to 1970, temperatures were going through an especially cold period...... Any warming in recent decades, then, "seems to be due mostly to natural causes, not to increasing levels of carbon dioxide." Why then do organizations such as the UN's Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) continue to put faith in climate supercomputer models that show disastrous warming in the coming century?....” The real ‘deniers' , Lorne Gunter, National Post “......Because, as Prof. Happer explained, the IPCC believes in what is called a "positive feedback loop." In short, water vapour and clouds account for about 98% of the greenhouse effect versus less than 2% for CO2. The IPCC believes, though, that a doubling of CO2, while not significant on its own, will trigger a huge increase in the greenhouse impact of water vapour. But so far, in the real world, "the feedback is close to zero and may even be negative." Prof. Happer testified.....two weeks ago, three of five independent scientists asked by Japan's Society of Energy and Resources to assess the current state of climate science concluded that global warming, to the extent it is still occurring, is a natural phenomenon, not manmade. In his official contribution, Kanya Kusano, program director at the Earth Simulator at the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology, called the IPCC's warming theories "an unprovable hypothesis" and likened the current supercomputer models to ancient astrology. Even the Discovery Channel, never a fan of scientists who dissent from climate orthodoxy, reported last week on a University of Wisconsin study that shows global temperatures have at least flatlined during the past decade and that that trend could continue for another 30 years.
(9March09) “......The Muslim religion makes unusually large claims for itself. All religions do this, of course, in that they claim to know and to be able to interpret the wishes of a supreme being. But Islam affirms itself as the last and final revelation of God's word, the consummation of all the mere glimpses of the truth vouchsafed to all the foregoing faiths, available by way of the unimprovable, immaculate text of "the recitation", or Koran......It is the so-called mainstream Muslims, grouped in the Organisation of the Islamic Conference, who are now demanding through the UN that Islam not only be allowed to make such absolutist claims, but that it be officially shielded from any criticism as a result..... paragraph five "expresses its deep concern that Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism", while paragraph six "notes with deep concern the intensification of the campaign of defamation of religions and the ethnic and religious profiling of Muslim minorities in the aftermath of the tragic events of September 11, 2001". You see how the trick is pulled? In the same weeks this resolution comes up for its annual renewal at the UN, its chief sponsor-government (Pakistan) makes an agreement with the local Taliban forces to close girls' schools in the Swat Valley region (a mere 150km or so from the capital in Islamabad) and subject the inhabitants to sharia law.....” Push to criminalise criticism of Islam, Christopher Hitchens, The Australian “......And this capitulation comes in direct response to a campaign of horrific violence and intimidation, including public beheadings....Yet the religion of those who carry out the campaign is not to be mentioned, lest it "associate" that faith with human rights violations or terrorism. In paragraph six, an obvious attempt is being made to confuse ethnicity with religious allegiance. Indeed this insinuation (incidentally dismissing the faith-based criminality of September 11 as merely tragic) is in fact essential to the entire scheme. If religion and race can be run together, then the condemnations that racism axiomatically attracts can be surreptitiously extended to religion, too.....the UN resolution seeks to extend the whole area of denial from its existing homeland in the Islamic world into the heartland of post-enlightenment democracy, where it is still individuals who have rights, not religions. See where the language of paragraph 10 of the resolution is taking us. Having briefly offered lip service to the rights of free expression, it goes on to say that "the exercise of these rights carries with it special duties and responsibilities and may therefore be subject to limitations as are provided for by law and are necessary for respect of the rights or reputations of others, protection of national security or of public order, public health or morals and respect for religions and beliefs." The thought buried in this awful, wooden prose is as ugly as the language in which it is expressed: watch what you say, because our declared intention is to criminalise opinions that differ with the one true faith. Let nobody say that they have not been warned.....”
(5March09) “…..In 1994 a group of religious students from a madrassa in Kandahar banded together to take on the vicious warlords who then ran southern Afghanistan. About 30 young men with 16 rifles stormed a military camp where two girls were being held and raped, rescuing the girls and hanging the camp's commander from the gun barrel of a tank, or so the story goes…. Thus began the movement known as the Taliban, from the word talib, meaning student. As Pakistani author Ahmed Rashid wrote in his seminal book, Taliban: "They saw themselves as the cleansers and purifiers of a guerilla war gone astray, a social system gone wrong, and an Islamic way of life thathad been compromised by corruption and excess." Within months, 12,000 volunteers had joined the new organisation. The Taliban would likely have been just another in the plethora of Afghan militias scrabbling for power except that it found itself a powerful sponsor in the government and military establishment of neighbouring Pakistan. Keen to have a biddable ally in Kabul, Islamabad provided the weapons, ammunition, funding and logistical support that enabled the Taliban -- "our boys", as Pakistan's interior minister famously called them -- to seize power and rule Afghanistan for five years….. As William Maley of the Asia-Pacific college of diplomacy at the Australian National University in Canberra observes: "There are huge problems in Afghanistan. Confidence has plummeted because of the insecurity, but people haven't turned against the democratic transition, they are still strongly committed to it, and that may well carry Afghanistan through. "But in Pakistan there is a profound crisis of confidence in the political system. It's a failing state and a decidedly roguish state. And this is why a lot of Western leaders are becoming profoundly concerned." … Doomsday Nation , Sally Neighbour, The Australian "…..Women belong in the house or the grave", in the words of a Pashtun proverb……The 1979 Soviet invasion of Afghanistan prompted Pakistan to seize the opportunity to install a compliant regime in Kabul in the hope of finally resolving the border issue in its favour. It threw its support behind the Islamic militants, becoming the conduit for billions of dollars funneled from the US and Saudi Arabia to the mujahidin…… When the rival factions turned on each other after defeating the Soviets, Pakistan switched its support to the Taliban and celebrated when the black-turbaned warriors swept to power. The warning signs of blowback were there for all to see….. French scholar Olivier Roy wrote in 1997: "The apparent victor, Pakistan, could pay dearly for its success…..Up to 100,000 Pakistanis are estimated to have trained with the Taliban, then returned home to take up the fight…..Maley says it's "a balloon-squeezing exercise": the militants will simply pop up somewhere else. The likeliest place seems to be the nearby Swat Valley, where the Pakistani Government last month agreed to allow sharia law in return for a ceasefire….. Like many experts, Maley predicts this will prove disastrous, merely creating a new sanctuary for the extremists bent on destroying the Pakistani state….”
(5March09)“......This nuclear-armed state, long ruled by a grotesque litany of corrupt dictators and riven with militant Islamists, has now fallen into murderous anarchy. What's more, it is the world's seventh most populated nation, with at least 170 million people within its fragile borders. If World War III were to break out anywhere, Pakistan would be a most likely contender..... So anarchic have parts of Pakistan become that conditions there are now approximating those in war-torn Afghanistan. That is certainly the view of Richard Holbrooke, President Obama's special envoy to the region, who has described the situation in Pakistan as 'dire'. Indeed, in memos to the White House administration, he amalgamates these two lawless countries of Afghanistan and Pakistan, describing them as the problem of 'Af-Pak'.... The Pakistani army has deployed 100,000 troops to this vast lawless area, but their heart is not in the fight and they are failing to make an impact because the region is so huge, wild and mountainous...... This is no tribally-run hellhole, but a mainstream state which is perhaps one of the most beautiful highland landscapes on earth and known as the 'Switzerland of Pakistan'. .....” Forget Afghanistan and Iraq, will World War 3 start in Pakistan , Michael Burleigh “......Already, the Taliban have introduced an especially primitive form of sharia law in the Swat Valley. They have also burned down 300 girls' schools and closed down all the rest. The Taliban radio station announces the names of people their death squads intend to kill. Their corpses are often dumped next to Pakistani police stations to emphasise who is really in charge.....One of the Taliban's first acts on being given control of the Swat Valley was to kill a Pakistani TV reporter of whom they disapproved because of the way he covered their triumphal entry into the region's main city of Mingaora. But the Swat Valley aside, one of the most disturbing indications of Pakistan's fall into lawlessness of all is the creeping Talibanisation of Karachi.....The militants hide among the vast immigrant population of impoverished Pashtuns - the same tribe as the Taliban - who migrated to Karachi looking for work, much to the vexation of the city's middle-class Urdu speaking population..... Pakistani's elites are like ferrets squabbling in a sack, when all the country's energies need to be focused on halting a creeping Islamist takeover..... the Taliban themselves are intent on taking over whole swathes of Pakistan, hoping to form a large Islamist Emirate on the Afghan-Pakistan border. The result is a terrifying tinderbox. Although we have been fighting in Afghanistan for six years, the reality is that the war may just be starting in Pakistan - a nuclear-armed country of 170 million with its huge immigrant diaspora living in our midst. This lethally volatile situation is deeply, deeply worrying......”.
(5March09) “......The American economy has gone away. It is not coming back until free trade myths are buried 6 feet under. America's 20th century economic success was based on two things. Free trade was not one of them. America's economic success was based on protectionism, which was ensured by the union victory in the Civil War, and on British indebtedness, which destroyed the British pound as world reserve currency. Following World War II, the U.S. dollar took the role as reserve currency, a privilege that allows the United States to pay its international bills in its own currency...... The ascendant position of the U.S. economy caused the U.S. government to be relaxed about giving away American industries, such as textiles, as bribes to other countries for cooperating with America's Cold War and foreign policies...... In contrast, countries such as Japan and Germany used industrial policy to plot their comebacks. By the late 1970s, Japanese automakers had the once dominant American auto industry on the ropes. The first economic act of the "free market" Reagan administration in 1981 was to put quotas on the import of Japanese cars in order to protect Detroit and the United Auto Workers..... Free market economists" covered up the damage done to the U.S. economy by preaching a New Economy based on services and innovation. But it wasn't long before corporations discovered that the high-speed Internet let them offshore a wide range of professional service jobs. In America, the hardest hit have been software engineers and information technology (IT) workers. The American corporations quickly learned that by declaring "shortages" of skilled Americans, they could get from Congress H-1b work visas for lower-paid foreigners with whom to replace their American workforce. Many U.S. corporations are known for forcing their U.S. employees to train their foreign replacements in exchange for severance pay.....” How the Economy Was Lost , Paul Craig Roberts “.....As the American economy eroded away bit by bit, "free market" ideologues produced endless reassurances that America had pulled a fast one on China, sending China dirty and grimy manufacturing jobs. Free of these "old economy" jobs, Americans were lulled with promises of riches. In place of dirty fingernails, American efforts would flow into innovation and entrepreneurship. In the meantime, the "service economy" of software and communications would provide a leg up for the workforce..... The "free market" economists, who provided the propaganda and disinformation to hide the act of destroying the U.S. economy, were well paid..... The demise of America's productive economy left the U.S. economy dependent on finance, in which the United States remained dominant because the dollar is the reserve currency. With the departure of factories, finance went in new directions. Mortgages, which were once held in the portfolios of the issuer, were securitized. Individual mortgage debts were combined into a "security." The next step was to strip out the interest payments to the mortgages and sell them as derivatives, thus creating a third debt instrument based on the original mortgages. In pursuit of ever more profits, financial institutions began betting on the success and failure of various debt instruments and, by implication, on firms.....This was the most shameful and most mindless form of speculation. Gamblers were betting hands that they could not cover. The U.S. regulators had abandoned their posts. The American financial institutions abandoned all integrity. As a consequence, American financial institutions and rating agencies are trusted nowhere on earth.... Taxpayers, equity owners and the credit standing of the U.S government are being ruined by financial shysters who are manipulating to their own advantage the government's commitment to mark-to-market and to the "sanctity of contracts." Multi-trillion dollar "bailouts" and bank nationalization are the result of the government's inability to respond intelligently.....To keep the economy going, consumers have gone deeper into debt, maxing out their credit cards and refinancing their homes and spending the equity. Consumers are now so indebted that they cannot increase their spending by taking on more debt. Thus, whether or not the banks resume lending is beside the point....”
(1March09) “.....The Armed Forces are increasingly fighting British Muslims with Midlands and Yorkshire accents on the battlefields of Afghanistan. Intelligence reports show that rising numbers of home-grown jihadists have joined the Taliban so they can kill British soldiers.... Senior military sources say UK troops are engaged in a 'surreal mini-civil war' in the dusty badlands of Helmand Province. The revelations came as the Ministry of Defence announced another three British soldiers had been killed in a roadside bomb attack in southern Afghanistan today.....” Armed Forces are fighting British Muslims with Yorkshire accents, Daily Mail “.....Surveillance operations from the warzone has picked up voices talking with West Midlands and Yorkshire accents, according to official briefing documents. The electronic 'chatter' confirms mounting fears that young disaffected Muslims are travelling to southern Afghanistan to commit violence against British targets.MI5 has estimated that up to 4,000 British Muslims had travelled to Pakistan and Afghanistan for military training, with 'dozens' switching to the front-line....”
(1March09) “.....British troops in the blood-stained wastelands of Afghanistan are now faced with the murderously destructive consequences of multi-culturalism and the collapse of our national cohesion . For as they continue their heroic struggle against the Taliban they are confronted by a new enemy: home-grown jihadists who were reared in Britain and have travelled to Afghanistan to support the cause of Islamic radicalism..... As one officer put it this week: "We are now involved in a kind of surreal mini-British civil war."... This is a chilling indictment of the Government. Labour's propagandists constantly tell us that cultural diversity has "enriched" our society. But in reality this vile ideology has allowed Muslim extremism and treachery to flourish, putting the lives of our troops at risk... The British armed forces display the noble virtues of courage, self-sacrifice and patriotism. It is disgraceful that they now come under fire from sadistic zealots who are, nominally at least, their own fellow citizens.....” Inside Afghanistan A British Civil War is Gathering Pace , Daily Express “...... As it turns out, the only loyalty of these Islamists is to barbaric oppression......There have always been traitors in British society, people who sided with the enemy out of ideological fervour or mental derangement. But what is so disturbing about the insurgency against the Army is British jihadism has been created by the policies of the Government...... They destroyed our borders and allowed millions to settle here from Asia without having the slightest connection or allegiance to Britain...Through the official state creed of diversity, they encouraged migrants to cling to their own cultures rather than integrate. Separatism was promoted by caving into every demand of self-styled Muslim community leaders, whether it be the creation of faith schools or bans on free speech.... the official culture of appeasement has undermined the ability of our troops to wage war in Afghanistan. Terrified of Islamism at home, Labour politicians have never demonstrated the will to win. Their commitment to defeating the Taliban has always been half-hearted....”
(1March09) “...Formally, I'm on trial, but actually free-speech is on trial,” (Geert Wilders) told Front Page when asked about the pending case, which could mean a two-year jail sentence if he is convicted. It's a typically media savvy sound bite that has the added advantage of being true. Agree or disagree with him about the distinctive dangers of Islam – and most Dutch, according to recent polls, share his suspicions that Islam is incompatible with the country's liberal and democratic traditions – Wilders may be prosecuted for nothing more than expressing an opinion... To add insult to legal injury, there is the recent unpleasantness in the UK. Invited by Lord Malcolm Pearson earlier this month to screen Fitna in the British House of Lords, Wilders was detained on his arrival at London's Heathrow airport, refused entry into the country, and ultimately sent back to the Netherlands on the next available flight. For good measure, British Foreign Secretary David Miliband condemned what he called the “extreme anti-Muslim hate” of Fitna, only to admit later to the BBC that he had never actually seen the film he claimed to find so contemptible...” Defiant Wilders , FrontPageMagazine.com “.....He notes, too, the obvious point that the security concerns cited by British authorities to bar him from the country had nothing to do with Wilders and everything to do with the radical Islamists who might object to his presence – an unacknowledged confirmation of his longtime charge that multiculturalism and political correctness have made European states increasingly submissive to their restive Muslim populations. In this connection, Wilders blames the “outrage of what happened in London” squarely on what he calls Britain's “self-hating, multicultural immigration policies.” ... Wilders credits his latest legal troubles, as well as his ban from the UK, for his growing popularity. “There is outrage in the Dutch public that Muslims can say all the crazy things they want – about killing Jews, for instance – but when a politician stands up and says, ‘This is a threat to our security,' he's put on trial.”
(1March09) “.....Here are some questions every American should ask their elected officials – especially those supporting “climate change” legislation: If it is proven that climate change is not man-made, but natural, will you be relieved and excited to know that man is off the hook? Will you now help to remove all of the draconian regulations passed during the global warming hysteria, since it was all wrong headed and harmful to the economy and our way of life? Their answers to these questions should be very illuminating as to the true agenda they seek to impose. Is their agenda really about helping to protect the environment, or is it about creating a new social and economic order, using the environment as the excuse?..... Last year, 52 scientists authored a much hyped report issued by the UN's IPCC which said global warming was man-made and getting worse. But in the past year, more than 650 scientists from around the world have now expressed their doubts about the reports findings – 12 times the number of IPCC global warming alarmists now agree it's bunk...That silence you hear is the news media, which refuses to report what any skeptic has to say.....” What if there is no Man-Made Global Warming?
